DISCOVE CLI Denial Reasons

I asked for CLI on my DISCOVER card exactly at Day 91 and got declined.

Here are reasons:

- Bureau reports insufficient credit history

- Number of recent inquiries as reported by agency

- Insufficient decrease in util on all open trades with balance

Can someone explain the 3rd one?

My card has a $1,000 CL

I have a BCE ($3k) and a QS ($1.25k)

Income ~$30k

TU FICO - 723

Clean profile, no baddies

12 month credit history

3 inquiries

I usually spend $50-$100/statement cycle, and only let about $3 report.

I asked for this CLI 2 weeks ago. My 3rd statement will close in 1 day, should I just ask again after 3rd statement posts?

Re: DISCOVE CLI Denial Reasons

Wait a few days/ week after your third statement.. What date is your FICO pulled on the included FICO score... Really do believe they use *that* pull to decide stuff like that...

Id use a few days after your next statement date as to a second try if one a week out didnt work..  Know I did push too early a few times and retried after the rejection and scored.. but id give it a week at least before the initial retry..

As to the third reason code... your payments could have not reported when the report used for the denial was pulled... thats partially why folks pay before statement cuts and dont use their cards a few days before the statement is due to cut.. and use another card... thats the whole 'optimizing thing" but frankly if what im reading is right... its just pulled out of their backside.... also realize reason codes are usually in order of weight... I wouldnt sweat it but its more an artifact of your thin file...

Also discover has gotten a little more reserved again but you should be able to eek out a CLI out of them soon... its was only slightly predictable and then after the secured cards all stopped getting CLIs for a brief time with verification errors... its been a bit slower.....

Really see a CLI in your not too distant future...

Re: DISCOVE CLI Denial Reasons

The original try was on June 8 (91 days), and I see that they used my May 13 TU FICO. My 3rd statement will cut on June 19, and I am planning on trying on the 20th. That will be almost two weeks, and that will allow me to use my June FICO as well. What do you think?

Re: DISCOVE CLI Denial Reasons

Go for it....

Thats what i'd do...

Only trying to avoid those pesky letters in the mail but get you the CLI you deserve =)

Its a SP. but collecting those silly things gets tiresome after awhile... in the past, iv tried to limit it to 1 to 2 tries in a month... the train stopped at least for my account...

The other somewhat bogus code Disco uses on rejections is Not enough exp with current CL..... means its too early for them...

Re: DISCOVE CLI Denial Reasons

If we are trying to appease them  by playing the "optimize" game...  if you can... try to zero out the balance on the other two cards before the discover pulls.. not sure you can.. depends on timing and if they will report 0 when paid in full in time.. not so much your score per se.. but trying to eek out the balance reporting on other lines..   (This is all assuming your CLI button request doesnt pan out in the next few days)

Also im of the opinion that weekends are a iffy proposition for CLIs.... if they have to actually look it over... the 20th is when id do it...  (your doing a bit of social engineering at the same time)

Re: DISCOVE CLI Denial Reasons

I make sure to let my Amex and QS both cut at $2 every month. Which leaves me with $7/$5,250 overall util. Extremely small!

Re: DISCOVE CLI Denial Reasons

I haven't gotten a CLI from Discover in over 2years. They are good to some customers and just a nightmare to others

I wonder if the reason code -- Insufficient decrease in util on all open trades with balance -- is somehow misinterpeted or miscommunicated.

Having total utilization reporting at .0013 is NOT just extremely small, it's not even registering. It might as well be 0% UT and that is probably one of the reasons that's causing the decline. You must have at least 1% reporting. So make sure that a minimum of 1% is reporting on two of your cards and 0% on the third card. IMHO, this will increase your odds of getting a CLI. GL to you.
