No credit card required
Browse credit cards from a variety of issuers to see if there's a better card for you.
If you search around these forums a bit, you'll find each lender has their own CLI methods and they vary quite a lot lender to lender. The best threads to learn about Discover is http://ficoforums.myfico.com/t5/Credit-Cards/Whats-your-Discover-card-credit-limit/td-p/5108645. As far as the x3 question goes, I think you may be confusing them with Amex, who will usually grant a x3 soft-pull CLI request after the first 61 days, and thereafter will ususally grant CLI requests every 6 months (Amex did grant the 61 day x3 for me)
The TLDR on Discover is that Discover is all over the place.
I'll start with the few consistencies they demonstrate: (1) CLI requests are soft-pull (2) If they give you an auto-CLI, you can do a same-day CLI request to "double dip" for a little extra (3) For secured discover cards ONLY, they *usually* unsecure the card at 7 months and grant a x2.5 CLI. I can verify (3) from experience.
That's pretty much where the consistencies end. Some people have gotten CLIs as close together as 30 days, others (like me) have pushed the CLI button once/month and waited 6 months (6 seems to be about the max, if your credit score isn't dropping). Basically, keep trying, but don't expect them to act in a consistant fashion. One poster in the thread I mentioned discussed the idea of using the discover card erratically (one month very high spending PIF, next month high spending & let it report before paying, next low spending, next high spending and pay once/week, next spend 0, etc.) and it actually a pretty interesting idea =P
1. Wait till after your third statement cuts... even so much as to give it 2-3 days ...
2. When is discover pulling your FICO score for the statement score? This factors into the CLI equation..
3. Miss Disco is still pretty unpredictable.. but again. in my experience.. i waited until an autocli that appeared after the third statement cut by a few days... it was not on the statement.. it was in the account..... Tend to think similar to Amex on this that they "want to get to know you" a bit and your spending/payment habits...
I do think unofficially that asking too often and too soon can be a slight impediment... Discovers phone folks are not like other banks... its very difficult to impossible to recon (an approval or even a CLI).... its very much like other banks in that what the computer says goes...
I wouldnt do it too frequently even though its an SP.. perhaps once a month a few days after the statement generates?
Hope that helps...

There is no guarantee that you are eligible for CLI with Discover after having the account for 90 days. Period.
If they deny you because of age of account, the only thing you can do is to wait longer, this can be additional 3-4 months, but maybe shorter or longer. People with perfect history can still get denied even when having Discover for 6+ months.
