Decisions, Decisions...

Since my first post the other day I have been researching new card options. I was considering the Chase Amazon card for the rewards or the Macy's card for the discounts. We are Prime members and my husband has an Amazon card (3%), but then I was introduced the the Barclay Sallie Mae card with the 5% back which is a better deal. I was also suggested the Discover IT card but I have the Chase Freedom card and the only difference I can see is that IT offers a FICO score (my Chase Slate will soon) and more flexible on late payments. I have never been late or missed a payment so that is not really a benefit for me, but I would not mind the FICO score with no annual fee. The Barclay Reward card also offers a FICO score but the rewards are not as great for Amazon. Basically, I have been doing more research but now I think I have confused myself as to what to do...

I am simply looking to add a new card (or two) to my portfolio. I don't chase rewards but we do spend a lot on Amazon and I only use credit cards for online purchases because I feel they are more secure so why not reap the benefits. I don't usually buy gas or groceries on a card, but I should start. I have always thought that if I am consuming the product immediately, I should pay for it immediately (food, restaurants, movies, gas, etc). Any suggestions between the IT card, Barclay Sallie Mae or Barclay Rewards? I believe someone also suggested CitiBank Double Cash or AMEX Blue? Or am I missing one that may be even better?

Another thing, it has been a few years since I applied for a card. Should I have any issue if my cards do not have a balance on them when I apply? Does that look bad? I know you want under a 30% utilization but is it bad if my utilization is 0%? Should I apply for one card and then wait a certain period of time to apply for another? The only inquiry I have in the last 2 years is one from the last 6 months when I switched cell phone providers. I unsubscribed to preapproval notifications and mailing list options years ago, should I reinlist in that program so I will receive preapprovals? Sorry for so many questions on one post (ps.. I hope this is in the right board, sorry if it is not!)
