Delta Amex Question

Re: Delta Amex Question

Yeah it does help. I have a feeling I’m in the 1k club with Amex for a bit if approved . I wish I had a crystal ball though because limit would determine if reaching the spend on the platinum is attainable I.e putting charges of larger than 1k on it.

Re: Delta Amex Question

I have had some different information from Amex vs what I have read here and I have had some different experiences.  First, according to Amex the credit limit increase rules are per card and not the relationship of all cards.  I had them repeat this three different ways, but the point didn’t vary.  Second, you can apply for the gold and get the miles.  You can apply for the platinum a month later and get the sign up miles.  I was given $1k on the gold and not happy about it.  I made my daughter an AU and she uses it for school.  I was given $8k on the platinum and I never leave home without it.  the Amex rep I spoke to suggested waiting six mos for a CLI as 2 mos approval is an exception and not the rule.  Lastly I have 3 revolvers and one charge and only have one HP from the first card I obtained last November.

I don’t think one experience will be the same for everyone.  YMMV...

Stats: Exp 723, 12% util, six figure income, six figure assets.

UPDATE 3/13/2018: I tried for a CLI on a card I had for two statement cycles and instantly approved for 3x.  Then I tried on another card after 5 statement cycles today and instant decline.  I called in and they said it was automatically cancelled as now I need to wait 6 months... since I received a CLI already today on the first request.  Looks like the CSR I spoke to about CLIs being specific to the card was wrong.

Re: Delta Amex Question

Thanks for your input. Were it 6 months ago, I would likely have done the double app. However, time is a factor since I’m trying to accrue the miles ASAP for our trip. I wonder if plat typically gets higher limits. I can’t imagine that’s the case though since the underwriting is likely the same for each. Like I said, even knowing what my limit may be if approved would significantly drive my decision.

Very interesting what you said about your CLI success. It has been my understanding that the increases were determined based on the cardholder’s schedule of increase and not the card’s. Glad you’ve had success alternatively though!

Re: Delta Amex Question

If it helps I just recently applied the plat delta my EX score had just updated with amex the day before and it was 696 at the time. I received no HP for approval and received 10K SL. My Blue cash was at 3600 after starting at 1200 last July. I met the spend before I even received the card and had my miles the business day after everything posted to the account. But this is Just my experience.

Re: Delta Amex Question

Yes very helpful. Thanks. At this point I’m leaning towards plat. I figured out a way to meet the spend even with a potential 1k limit so I think it’s the best option for our needs. Great SL on your platinum! I hope it grows for you!
