Denied a CC from Navy Federal - no offer for secured?

Should I be concerned that I was not offered a secured credit card from Navy Federal?

I applied for one of their cash back cards and was denied. I haven't received the letter, yet, but when I asked for a counter offer they referred me back to my letter arriving in 7-10 business days.

I have two years of perfect payment history on two Capital One backed cards, Justice & Neiman Marcus, and a Kohl's store card. I want to cut off the Justice credit card but not until I get a credit card that can be used anywhere.

If you want the secured card I would just apply for it.

I wouldnt be concerned as im not sure that they necessarily offer a secured card when denied for an unsecured card. .Unfortunatrly, its a lityle hard to offer more specif advice without knowing how your credit looks. What do your ficos look , any baddies on your report?. If you are s member of NavyFed, you are on the right path but Navy must see something they didnt like in your report. Lets us know, maybe someone can point you in the right direction for a visa or mcSmiley Happy

Credit is terrible and I have a ton of baddies. Even though I've gotten a lot paid off and removed, there's still a lot to go.

512 TU 542 EQ and exp is unknown at this moment. Those are from Navy Federal.

In 2015 I burned all major credit cards and the only ones that remain were never used and ever closed down. So I've been actively using them since and paying on them each month.

In June, UFCU gave me a $500 unsecured loan to help me rebuild and that was ONLY because I had an amazing underwriter helping. They made a clear note in my account that I must pay it off in full term (no early payoffs before they will look at any other product. I was told this also included a secured credit card).

Ok thanks for update. So did you actually file a bk , bankruptcy, or did you just stop paying your majors?

Re: Denied a CC from Navy Federal - no offer for secured?

I lost my job and the two jobs I obtained afterwards barely paid for half of my financial obligations. I had to stop paying for the cards and a few loans. Moved out of my apartment four months early and more.

So in short, yes, I stopped paying.

So you haven't passed the statute of limitations on any of your debt?  Not sure I would be applying for anyhing if that were the case.

Re: Denied a CC from Navy Federal - no offer for secured?

I applied for a second card with NFCU and got instantly denied about 3 weeks back. Their products are in my siggy. I always pay before statement cuts. Never carry a balance with them.

I think I'm at my internal limit with them. My navy score was 395.

It pissed me off that they offered me a "secured card" in the decline letter. Even though I have a $27k gorewards and a 15k CLOC.

I don't get that one.

The same day Penfed Power Cash instantly approved with a baby limit of 11k.

Re: Denied a CC from Navy Federal - no offer for secured?

1) Curious...How long of a term is UFCU asking of you, to build that confidence?

2) I'd be careful of taking HPs, if things are presenting that bad, especially if UFCU might be closely watching the ARs
I generally don't care for Open Sky except for special cases, this may be one of those... I don't again generally like AFs however if it can secure certain folks a TL w/o wasted HPs or fear of a denial, then I can see that $29 differently because it allows an opportunity to build positive data along with mix
Bedfellows, change as options change
