Discover CLI Denial

Super bummed, my 3rd statement cut, my score has gone up 50 pts since I got the card, and I was declined for a CLI. UGH. It's definitely my favorite card because I earn tons of cash back but they started me out at 500 Smiley Sad It's a hassle to keep paying it down constantly. Meanwhile AMEX and Chase give me way more useable limits. Considering calling them and telling them THEY ARE KILLING ME lol.

Re: Discover CLI Denial

Best thing about Discover is CLI is a SP unless they tell you otherwise, and you can try every 31 days.

Good luck next month, make sure you're using the card and paying it off.... it'll happen Smiley Happy

Re: Discover CLI Denial

My Fico score from Discover updates on the 14th. On one of my CLI denial letters I happen to notice they were using the score from the previous month. I requested the CLI on the 20th but the score was from the 14th of the previous month. I read Capital One has used scores as old as 3 months!

FICO SCORE 08 - TU 810 - EX 807

12/15 - First Tradeline - 12/17 - 800 Credit Score - 3/18 - Homeowner

Re: Discover CLI Denial

Thanks for the advice Poppa. I guess I'll found out what they used with the letter. Although last month wasn't 47 pts higher it was still 30 pts higher! So irritating.

Re: Discover CLI Denial

Just got my letter, this is a good one. Insufficient experience with credit limit. IT'S 500 DOLLARS! 😂 No I don't have 60k cards like some folks here but my lowest is 2k. Thanks Discover! Guess I'll have to try that button again next month. No other reasons listed, and my most recent pull was listed on the denial letter, 720.

Re: Discover CLI Denial

I know your PIF and rinse and repeating.. My question is do you pay it off before the statement generates?

If so. you might want to rinse and repeat but let the statement generate with a balance and pay it off a day or two after it generates..

Other option is call and take the HP (if they didnt do an HP for the CLI you were denied)

Third idea is to subscribe to credit scorecard (if you arent already)... and have it SP you for a FICO score that ISNT the same CRA as the one for the discover card itself (2 real scores for free)... then do one of the above.... That will likely force at least a SP update.....

Just a thought..

Re: Discover CLI Denial

I just let a balance report, so we will see how that goes! As much as it killed me because I have a 0% interest on my barclay apple going right now so that's my "balance" card.

Re: Discover CLI Denial

I dont consider PIF right after a statement generate keeping a balance... you have a grace period for a reason.. but its enough to show visibly on your report the card is being used... and remember utilization does not have memory, so as soon as you pay it off, the next month its back to whatever that months bill is..  If its this problem, its not unique to Discover,  .. There are Cap One folks who cant seem to get a CLI but they pay off their cards before the statement date and they get the not enough experience with current CL sort of excuse as well..  Internally they are good to go, but when you pull their report.. its as if they arent using that card at all....

Now if its the stale report problem, thats where I think... subscribing to credit scorecard (its free for both Disco and non-disco users).. would get it to update.. Can't guarentee it... The other thing you could watch is the Fico score in the discover portal to see when it updates.... it has a date... which means they SP'ed you on that date as well.
