Discover CLI Denied

Hi All,

Longtime lerker. I decided to post to find some possible answers. I had a discover secured card that I was approved for in October 2017. The credit line/deposit was for 300. My card graduated to unsecured in November 2018, my 300 deposit was returned to me, and I received a pretty nice credit line of 1750. I have been clicking the LUV button every month for about 18 months and always getting denied. The denial letter states "Status of current or prior account". I finally called in to the Discover CLI departmet and was told that the reason that I was being denied was because of a charged off account in 2009. This was account was incldued in a bankrupcty back in 2009, and the bankrupcty has since fallen off my credit reports. How long will Discover hold a grudge??? Pretty strange they approve me for a card but not allow me to get CLI. 

My current scores are EX: 717, TU 698, EQ 690

it really depends on the amount of the CO. I IIB Discover in 1996 for 1.2K and apped for new unsecured card in 2012 and have never been denied a CLI for that reason. Welcome to myFico

Irony is that though you are being denied a CLI on the once secured card, chances are you could app for a new card with them  & possibly be approved with a much higher SL.

Yeah I think above poster is right that you have a better shot at a higher SL on a new app than continuing to ask for a CLI on that card. Most likely a "bucketed" card that just gives you generic reasons for denial!

I also IIB'd them on my 2011 BK7 for about $6K. They approved me in 2015 with an $800 SL which has since grown to now $21.5K.  I've since stopped asking for CLI a year ago as I have no more use for that big amount of a CL.

I IIB discover for $3800 in 2012. Got 2 new unsecured Discover. One was $5000 and second (1 year later) $1500. Then 3 months ago, they reduced my CL from $5000 to $3400 and from $1500 to $1100. I have been trying to get CLI from each one of them. They always denied it. The last time they denied it with the exact reason with the OP. Does it mean that I will be out of luck from now on to get CLI?
