Discover CLI

Hi everyone,

My girlfriend has the Disco Student It Chrome Card.

She got a SL of $1,500 when opened in Nov. 2017. She doesn't have a job but gets about $500-700/mo as allowance from her parents so we counted that after discussing with the CSR on the chat system.

Now, she's thinking of a CLI, how much and when should she attempt? I know they do soft pull but wanted to know how much we should attempt to ask for through that tool if her income is around $6-7K per year

The last time i did a CLI (days ago on mobile)  it didnt give me the option to ask for an amount, just what i had to pay it back with...  discover will set the increase limit based on what they want to give you.   some see increases 30 some 60 and some 90...   Just have to try, and you'll learn which pattern you are on.

On her web portal it asks for her income, assets, employer, and also what limit she wants. I'm thinking of telling her to up it 1K from 1.5k to 2.5k given her income is only about 6-7K a year. Thoughts? Will they put her on an auto-cli pattern?

She hasn't hit 90 days yet - Feb 16 will be 90 days. Just FYI

I just pulled up mine and i dont have a section to request a certain limit..   Discover can be a funny one, seen ppl with high income and scores get nothing and low income and scores get decent CLI's.   YMMV.   

As her profile improves, they could give her an increase, but i havent seen it set on auto or anything like that.  My buddy has discover and no CLI (given or asked in years) and he's over 800.

They're definitely odd. She has fairly high usage of the card...900 month one, 670 month two, of course she pays down before statement close but I've heard that ppl with high usage don't get CLI for some reason, YMMV of course.

UPDATE - We checked on the website and you are right, Disco doesn't have a place where you can add your CLI amount - I was mistaken. Will probably try online CLI soon.

I would say, just for history sake..  wait till after 90 or so days to ask for the first one, but after that.. i ask the day after my statement posts every month.   if you score improves, its the ideal chance from the data points on this site.

Will there be any adverse effects if I ask for it earlier than day 90? I understand from what I read that they will have me put in information then prompt me whether they need a HP right? At that point I would definitely decline it. Let me know what your experience has been.

I would say no, just cause i ask all the time, and if they dont want to give me one i get the standard not enough exp with current limit letter.   i stopped asking all the time, but i had like 20 of them in a month and a half.. still have my card.

It is suggested to wait 92 days and/or after the 3rd statement cuts to ask for CLI. I'd just go ahead and wait it out but I guess it cant hurt. Don't want to seem desperate either though. Just me $0.02
