Discover Cannot Find Application

Hello everyone,

I applied last July and had a baddie that reported and they denied me for it. I had TU delete it the next day, and when I called back to have them try the application again, they said they do not do recon.

So 30 days later, I submitted my application last night (about an hour after their new accounts department closed) and I was instantly given the "5-7 day" notice and to call them to expedite processing. I did not get a reference number, though. I tried checking the status of my application on their website, but it kept giving me an error. Fast forward to today around 12pm, I called and the CSR could not find my application and said it could've been held in a batch from last night. She suggested I wait or apply again over the phone. I was hesistant to apply again, as I don't want to apply twice.

Is this normal for Discover when applying at night? Applied after for the Citi Double Cash card and was instantly approved for $4,900. Really bugs me that they cannot find my app.

Re: Discover Cannot Find Application

Getting the Citi Double Cash card is a good sign your credit is working for you. No idea what is up with Discover. Others on this forum may have some insight.

Re: Discover Cannot Find Application

Yeah, I am honestly hoping Discover just lost my app and it never gets reviewed or hard pulled. Don't really want a card with them now after the Citi one.

EDIT - So I called Discover again after their check status website stopped giving me an error, but sent me to their list of cards to apply for. The CSR asked me what time I applied when he couldn't find my application, and he said any application put in after 12 am ET takes 24-48 hours to show up due to maintenance on their website. Very glad I got someone this time that had an idea what I was talking about, rather than telling me to apply again.

Will update this post with their decision when I call 1-2 days later.

Re: Discover Cannot Find Application

Greetings All,

I have been lurking here for about a month now and thought I would go ahead and finally post in the hopes that it might be useful to others who have applied for the Discover It card.  Similar to the OP, I applied for the Discover It card Saturday evening and immediately was also shown a screen with the 5 to 7 day message without any confirmation number.  Yesterday afternoon when I tried to check the online application status I received the "there was an error in retrieving your application"  Like others, when I then called Discover, the CSR had no record of my application and urged me to apply again.  Thanks to the information I had found searching here on myFico, I was hesitant to do so as I was concerned it would be a double app.  Believing that my application had just been lost in transmission, I thanked the CSR for her time and said that I would pass on the card.  Today at lunch out of curiousity I checked the online status page and now it read that my application was almost complete and to call in to verify some information.  I called and told the very pleasant rep of being told that they had no application for me as of yesterday.  She then just verified my phone # and home address and placed me on hold for a moment.  She came back and told me congratulations and that I was approved for the Discover It card with a 18k SL.  She also told me that it can be fairly common that if you apply on Saturday night or Sunday morning, the application can be caught up in the data update for the week and won't process, or be seen, until Monday.  Having never had any interaction with Discover before this I do have to say that it seems strange how their systems aren't updating in real time.  I hope this information can help anyone else that has found themselves in the same situation.
