Discover Chrome CLI Denial

I was on a roll with Capital One (new account, CLI on existing account, PC of existing) and decided to try my luck with Discover last week and got a denial.  I didn't really expect them to approve anything but figured no harm if it's SP.  $1800 CL currently and it had been ~100 days or so since unsecuring and the CLI that came with it).  Waiting on the snail mail response since online doesn't specify a reason.  Usage had been increasing but I've only let it report a balance once in the last 6 months.  After this month usage will decrease as my 1yr with rewards matching is ending.  It's going to just be mainly for gas and nothing else going forward.

Re: Discover Chrome CLI Denial

Although they've been the ultimate puzzle for me, the good thing is that they will allow you to keep trying. I'm finding out that they REALLY love high usage, or the passage of time... weird.

Re: Discover Chrome CLI Denial

Sorry about the no go. Once it does come thru. Then it will becomes a 91 day venture. Disco is a jealous one and wants to be your go to card. You may have seen it before. But as we say. YMMV. If your in. It will go each time.

Re: Discover Chrome CLI Denial

I did get the letter today and it was insufficient experience at my current limit, which is not terribly surprising.  My problem now is that I don't have a good reason to give them the bulk of my spend starting next month so I may be high and dry with them for a while.  Trying to give SavorOne most of my spend it's 3% categories are the largest chunk of my CC spend and hoping Cap 1 will do me right with an increase in 7-8mo like they did with my other card. I'd really like to get the SavorOne up and then maybe I can go back and hit Discover with some higher spend for a while.

Re: Discover Chrome CLI Denial

There ya go. Swipe me! Disco will give higher CLI's than Cap1 ever will. Out of BK $1200 SL. I quit asking last year. So $18,500 I'm fine with. Not many can say they got $17,500 in 5yrs of CLI's with Cap1. Really unheard of. There is a few out there. Invest with Disco. Once they do come in. They'll keep coming in.

Re: Discover Chrome CLI Denial

Always get insufficent usage of existing cl going on 2-3 yeears now.  20k cl.  honestly only used up to 2k of it so they aren't wrong.  Certainly give to some though still that don't use their cl's or close to it.  Still onboard with theory if Discover was one of your first cards you are way more likely to get CLI's then if you had sufficent credit when they were obtained.

Re: Discover Chrome CLI Denial

I definitely plan to give them more spend again in the future, but when ~65% of my total spend would fit into SavorOne's 3% categories it's a harder decision (I just wasted the last 15-20 minutes exporting and doing the math on this from 9/24 to yesterday for all cards).  If only they would start allowing PCs to the cash back categories card again it would make it easier.

Re: Discover Chrome CLI Denial

I too have read that Disco wants to see the majority of ones spending with them before a CLI (Cap1 as well I believe).

I wonder though if one practices AZEO how would they know the majority of spend is being done with them?

I think and hope they may consider for me a CLI - I run around 4500 per month with them and PIF

Re: Discover Chrome CLI Denial

@Zoostation1 keep trying for that CLI, with spend. As others have mentioned, Disco likes spend.

I've noticed Disco also likes handing out CLI's when carrying a BT balance. Not sure if you have a balance on another card and/or have a BT offer on the Disco - but that's always an option

Good luck!
