Discover IT CLI Denial

I finally reached my 1 year anniversary last week with Discover and I asked for a limit increase! Didn't at all go how I expected!😜😂

They denied me: “Insufficient experience with current Discover Card credit limit”!😱🙁😔 Guess I just need even more time than 12 months.

I just knew I was good. Spend on it every month. It’s my AZEO card, I always leave a $10-$20 card balance on it. I usually either get close to or max out my 5% category each quarter. Always pay off the balance a couple days after the statement. Not to mention my credit profile is greatly improved since this time last year. I guess I’ll ask again next month!

On the bright side 4 days later Wells Fargo gave me a $3100 limit increase while I waited on the denial letter from Discover to arrive.  I wonder if I jumped the gun? I thought my 1 year anniversary was last Sunday. I waited until Monday to ask.  I just realized today that my 1 year anniversary was on last Monday. So I asked exactly 1 year from my approval date. My Credit Karma credit report on the Saturday before my request still showed my Discover card age at 11 months but Sunday morning it switched to 1 year. That's why I felt ok asking on last Monday.

After my 1st year with Discover I waited until my 13th statement cut and was approved for a CLI.

I believe it was @Anonymous who posted that DP about waiting until the 13th statement cuts.

@Mr_Mojo_Risin Ooh thank you so much for sharing this info! I'll try again after that 13th statement has been cut to see if I can get similar results!

You're welcome! It's hard to keep up with all of these DPs from lender to lender 🤣.

Good luck next month!

Do you need the CLI?? I mean it looks like you have over 160K + available to you. I guess I don't understand why people ask for more and more when they really are not using it? Is there a benefit to that?

Re: Discover IT CLI Denial

Congrats on your 1-year anniversary -but- I don't believe anyone has figured-out the Disco CLI formula as of yet. Some are granted CLIs every time they request and others are denied every time they request. The message, “Insufficient experience with current Discover Card credit limit” appears to be a standard response as I; received it 3 months straight ~ in April 2021, May 2021 -and- June 2021. The only reason I request the CLI is to help with my utilization as I increase my credit line and minimize spending!!!Smiley Wink

Sorry about the denial but GL with an attempt after the 13th statement. I think you'll have better results. Smiley Happy

Re: Discover IT CLI Denial

You answered your own question. Discover is telling you why your denied. Insufficient experience meaning by your balance being reported as nothing or $10.00 there algorithm is indicating your not currently utilizing the credit limit granted. As much as you hate to have an actual balance post my suggestion is that you do ... I would say at least 20% of your credit line .. then apply for a CLI. If/when u get the increase pay your balance down and call request an off cycle post so that your lower balance is reported. Having low balances post works against you when your attempting to get a CLI.

GOOD LUCK

@babygirl1256 thank you! You're right!  Looks like they can be hard to figure out. I'm gonna try again after I get my 13th statement as another user has suggested.   Best wishes to you whenever you ask again!
