Discover, denied after pre-approval

My mom wanted to get a Discover card, so I checked the pre-approval page for her and she was shown 2 options. Chose the one she wanted and finished the app. They wanted to confirm some information and she did that. I checked on the status this morning and it is saying she was denied. I thought Discover's pre-approval site was pretty solid? I'll be curious what their reason is when she gets the letter in the mail.

Pre Approvals are never 100% - it is in the fine print somewhere. 

She could have also been denied due to something not matching up with the information she listed on the app and what is on her credit file - new address/phone number/job etc - who knows. 

Have her call in to the reconsideration line - they may need her to verify some info maybe scan her ID before they can approve. Worth checking out.

Odd thing is, they already had her call to confirm some information. I'll be interested in seeing what the letter says when she gets it.

Once she receives the letter it should provide more guidance or information on what caused the application to be declined.

And, as mentioned above, pre-qualification doesn't always translate to an actual approval 100% of the time. Hence the disclosure that's provided before anyone clicks "submit".
