I applied for one of their cards. They wanted me to send them a copy of my driver's license. I didn't bother. At that point, I had well over $100K in card limits and a score over 800. I didn't need or want their crappy card enough to comply with their insulting demand - one that no other card issuer I had ever dealt with had made.
Everybody is entitled to their own opinion but I disagree that the Discover card is crappy. The 5 percent categories are great especially in the first year of double cb. they give regular bt offers. When they offered me a 2nd card I jumped on it. I was never asked for any ID or poi for either card, guess I got lucky or its a credit file thing

Why exactly is it "insulting" to ask for ID?

I guessing since their screen name is privacyadvocate privacy is something they care deeply about. I do too (support the ACLU) but I've decided to give up some privacy in order to enter into some desired relationships. Maybe a little sour grapes too? I also understand sour grapes. Anyway I figure so long as I'm carrying around this iPhone I can't really expect to have real privacy.

About 3mos ago I did a pre-approval on their site and wasn't pre-approved for anything so I decided to bite the bullet for "science" and applied for another secured card. I was denied and the denial letter stated I was denied due to the # of Disco accounts I had. I was under the impression you could have up to 2 Disco cards. For the last 3yrs I have an active checking and savings with Disco the savings has never had less then $5k in it. what's weird is that a few weeks after getting denied they gave me CLI of $700. Has anyone else had this experience with discover? Are they considering my ATM card as a 2nd card or does this seem like a bogus reason for the denial?
@GTS Just outta curiosity, what's the reason you want a 2nd card with them? Do you want the same card or another that fits different needs?
It can be exciting when we graduate to what we consider real adulthood. Like, a more adultier adult. Lol. Just remember credit building is a long game. Your FICO's will grow with time along with your age of accounts, so try to be patient and don't waste your precious hard pulls. Good luck!

I got my second Disco It Card for a second year of cashback match. I got my second card about a year after my first and I had (and still have) a savings account with them. I was able to combine the limits of my first 2 cards and close my 1st card and then get a 3rd card. I'm sure you will be allowed another card if your profile otherwise supports an approval. You should call them a see what the issue is.

If you have to ask, clearly it isn't to you.

Having $100k in limits and 800 scores doesn't somehow mean you can't be picked for identity verification. And you didn't answer the question.

@Hut1 I have the Discover It Cashback with 5% rotating categories now but wanted the Discover It Chrome card for those rewards. I see their travel card as pointless compared to others.
You got a 3k unsecured limit with them don't bother with another secured card you don't need it.
If you don't mind me asking what is your utilization and number of inquiries? You're probably better off tackling that on so you can move on to a premier bank like Amex or Chase.
Btw I got approved for an Amex platinum with a score of 660, but I believe it was because I previously had a paid off amex gold account with them 4 years prior.
