Good Morning Everyone,
Just curious if spend influences credit card approval decistions.
For example, lets say i book a roundtrip flight with American airlines 2-3 times a month for the past year. I decide to apply for the Citi AA card. Will my miles and overall $ spent have any influence on an approval or is it all 100% based on credit score and file.
Just curious here.
if you do that spend on a citi card then likely, if not then its just normal score and file.
The "payment history" totals and allocation for all accounts matter. That's how creditors can "see" your spend and usage of credit and whether you PIF or carry balances.
My understanding also came from this post from a well established forum member.

...the key is to use the credit as high as you can ..its give and take world show them you are special... your actual credit report is the section which displays your monthly payoff Amounts data those figures are the key factor ......not the FICO score chart..it was made to make you feel better only harsh truth .. good luck to all of you"

I have a hunch it might make a difference in getting a preapproval on the airline's site.
But I'm pretty sure that Citi won't even know about your relationship with American Airlines when they process your application.

Yea the issuer doesnt know what your relationship is with the airline, all they care about is your relationship with them or your credit file.
