FICO 8’s 780+, DENIED CSP. What to try for?

FICO 8s - 780, 782, 784.
20+ years of history

$60k in available credit across 9 open cards with 1% utilization on 4 of them (though TransUnion MAY still be dragging feet reporting one card at $12k limit that's been paid to $0).
Haven't applied for any cards in over 10 years. Most recent inquiry and account gained was car loan four years ago and still paying.

Negatives:

No mortgage in credit mix. HELOC was paid off last month and had 4 past 30's over the last four years, most recent of which was 20 months ago.

Submitted application for Chase Sapphire Preferred last night.

Rec'd email saying in review with no timeframe.
Called reconsideration today and was told DENIED and will receive letter in 7-10 days. Asked if it was due to inability to verify identity and rep said she was unsure but gave me a phone number to call for info tmrw. (Had tried to sign up for Chase Journey before application, but text verification was not received and phone calls to me to verify yielded nobody there when I answered (4 tries).

My intent with CSP was my first choice in beginning to churn for points as there is a fair amount of travel in our future, much of it with hotels. But in the immediate future (today) I was going to use it to book a cruise ($5k, flights $1k, hotel $400).

While I'm working on Chase, what is my best bet for immediate approval on a card that will meet my needs? Only requirement is that it comes with trip cancellation insurance. (I understand sometimes coverage lacks luster, but something is better than nothing.)

Looking forward to absorbing the knowledge and input!  Many thanks!

yeah, call back, make sure you're actually being transferred to reconsideration and you're not just talking with the first person who answers the phone.

ask specifically to be transfered to an underwriter so the application can be manually reconsidered

make sure you're calling from the phone number you applied from, no VOIP/google voice/different phone number or anything like that.

point out the balance that has been paid in full

Not an expert but I would wager that it's the four 30-day lates on your record that is doing you in.

Good luck.
