I have been building credit for nearly 2 years now after moving to the US from the UK and feel I have done pretty well so far in terms of setting myself up for the best possible position for my future (buying a house, car lease etc).
But a few months ago I tried setting up a credit karma account for my fiance to see what kind of position she was in, in terms of FAKO score and INQ's, her file was 'not thick enough' so it couldn't pull any scores. So then I decided to add her as an AU on 3-4 of my CC's.
She only has one in her wallet and has only used it once as she hates spending money!
She has 5 INQ's over 24 months which are all from loan companies when she started college (which were never actually taken out as we paid for it all in full anyway).
All of these INQ's are falling off this Oct/Nov. Her FAKO scores shot up to ~710 in a month though.
Is it too early to sign her up for her first real CC? Do CC companies deny based on people just being an AU?
I was thinking of the Chase Amazon card as she buys a lot on Amazon; or possibly the Amex EDC as it would be good for her to get her foot in the door with them.
Bump...
I would say check CapOne and Chase sites to see if any prequalified cards show up.
CC companies won't deny her for just being an AU but they might deny her if it her history isn't long enough. I would definitely check the pre qualification sites and see where she stands with them and go from there.
In addtion to what everyone suggested on here, before doing anything find out what her real FICOs are... FAKOs are not the scores the decision should be based on. Also, 5 inquiries in 24 months is not alot.
So if Chase is what she wants, check the pre-equal for starters to see if something pops up. People with limited history are able to get Chase...
