Fingerhut Decline Message

Has anyone ever gotten this message when applying for Fingerhut? I recently had a BK Discharge that's the only thing I can think ok. Should I give them a call for Recon?

Thank you for applying for a Fingerhut Credit Account issued by WebBank. We are not able to open an account for you at this time because we could not locate sufficient credit file information with the application provided. If you have recently moved, changed your name, or have other changes of personal information that may have prevented us from viewing your full credit file, please contact us at 800-356-2347 Monday through Friday between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. Central time. If you choose not to contact us, you will be receiving a letter within 30 days stating the specific reasons why your application was denied.

Re: Fingerhut Decline Message

I would say stop applying for anything right now, let a little distance between your application and your bankruptcy, and don't do anything to make matters worse credit wise.  Ballpark I'd give it six months to a year then try for a secured card (you COULD try now but if Fingerhut won't take you, I can't think anyone else that would).  As long as you didn't burn Capital One or Bank of America in the BK, you could go for one of those options by springtime.

Once you have a little history with those, I would try for a reasonably easy unsecured card (Barclay Rewards), again as long as you didn't burn them, and once you have some good payment history (no lates, PIFs whenever possible) you could get in with them.

Re: Fingerhut Decline Message

I have a Fingerhut, just paid my last Fresh Start payment, account is transitioning to a revolving account. When I initially signed up, I was pre-approved for a limit for a Fresh Start Account. Then when I applied, was declined. The reason was because I had JUST moved, and the new address was not recognized. I called, answered 3 ID confirming questions, account approved. I say, just call. #KeepUsUpdated #GoodLuck

Re: Fingerhut Decline Message

How recent was the BK discharge? Have you pulled all 3 reports to see if all your accounts are reporting correctly?

May be a verification issue, but don't app for anything until you check your reports.

Re: Fingerhut Decline Message

Please pull your reports and make sure everything has updated to discharged.  When was you discharged?  Yes I would give them a call and see what is going on with the application.  Beginning your rebuild is essential and important when one has filed and been d/c from bk.  However, I do not agree with waiting 6 months to a year to rebuild.

Some wait that long and regret they have waited so long because they scores would of have rebounded sooner than waiting.  I also do not agree with applying for the BOA secured card right after bk.  A secured card yes if you cannot go unsecured.  I started secured as I could not get in with Capital One right after discharge.  It took me 4 months to get back in with them after I had burned them, although YMMV(your mileage may vary).

Thank you for the wealth of knowledge I have learned from these forums. I am logging off as of November 9, 2022. I wish everyone great success.

Re: Fingerhut Decline Message

You've already applied so call them to recon. You didn't say how old your BK is. Check your reports for errors. It might be just an ID verification thing.

I don't think FH wants to turn away anyone if they can help it.

I don't see any reason  to wait 6 mos to a year. You can start improving your score now if you educate yourself  ( this forum is an excellent place to start )and plan.

good luck

My sister burned CapOne last year in her BK and they gave a card not long ago for $3000, then she got another card about a month later for $10,000.  Both of them QS, not QS1 cards.

It is by will alone I set my mind in motion.....
Always follow these rules: Only take a HP for a new account. Always use the best rewards card for that reward category. Don't close a card unless you know you really should. Never use more than 35% of a credit limit. Recon as much and as best you can. Use the introductory period to the best advantage. Get the signup bonus. Whenever possible PIF or balance transfer so you pay less in interest. Never give an excellent rating when it is actually the norm. Always look for a discount as more is always better.
Always accept candy from strangers because they have the best candy or from people you know have good candy.

OP's BK discharge was just a couple of days ago. Needs to clean up reports before apping for anything.
