A couple of weeks ago I applied for the card and was turned down and was told I'd get the letter in 7-10 days. The next day in the mail I got a pre-selected offer to sign up for that same card. So, I called in, spoke to a young lady and she said, well if you got that letter, you're virtually a lock to be approved for the card. A couple of days later, I got the same rejection when I clicked the link in my email. So I called and was told that there were too many recent inquiries. I get my gas at Sheetz and buy food in there all the time so this would have been a useful card for me. I tried the recon but they didn't budge. So, I just gave in and decided to heck with them and basically wrote them off as not worth my time with them. So, what do I get in my email today.....yup a prescreen offer for the same dang card, this time right from First Bankcard. The only way they got my email address was from the other two attempts at getting this card so I called back tonight and asked what the heck's up. The kid in CS was very nice and had me on hold for a while. He got my callback info and said his supervisor is going to be calling me tomorrow. I really hope the supervisor does call because I have a lot of questions for them! I have 2% utilization (total available credit all cards is $83k) and over 800 score on 2 of the 3 CRA. Should be an interesting call if they do have the nerve to call back. I will refuse to let them do a HP again since they decided to do 2 in a row that show on Experian (4/22) and Equifax (4/20).
Anyone have any comments on this bank? Are they even really worth my time for a recon?
I just looked at the email again - it's a frigging secured card!!! Now I know they can kiss my right cheek!!

When you applied did you make sure it was a non secure card? I couldn't find a whole lot of information on them besides the fact it looks like they are a divisio of first national bank of omaha.
It was definitely not a secured card that I was going for. And, they are a division of First National Bank of Omaha. I've never had a secured card in my life and I don't need one now with my credit history and FICO scores. I have an earful if that supervisor does call me. Especially now that I notice they are offering a secured card!
If you've read about FNBO, they're a tough nut to crack. They are very sensitive to fluctuations in utilization, new accounts and inquiries. That's just how they roll. So, potentially, the pre-screened/pre-approved offer would have been ok provided nothing virtually changed from the period they pre-screened your profile and the time you applied. It's been known that folks even with 800 scores can be declined. Scores are just one component.
Furthermore, if you didn't qualify for the unsecured version, then FNBO can sometimes offer the secured option, much like BoA (and provided you are elegible). You duking it out with the supervisor or manager is not going to accomplish anything. They are fairly conservative bank, that's all.

I won't really "duke it out". I will ask some good questions. When I originally typed up this thread I hadn't realized the pre-screen email was a secured card. I will most likely just cut to the chase with the supervisor if they call and say, if you're offering a secured card then thanks but no thanks whatsoever. Or, I can play dumb and act like I had no idea the pre-screen email was a secured card. Honestly, I don't even know how those secured cards work. I don't need FNBO in all seriousness. I wanted their Sheetz card.
