Wow very nice starting limit! Congrats! And definitely report back and let us know if they pulled once or twice.
Also, I guess the theory that you must have experience with a 5k CL in order to get the CSP is out the window now ![]()
@Anonymous wrote:Hey guys! I'm new here so go easy on me. I foolishly applied for a Citi Prestige recently, entranced by its perks, failing to realize that I am in no position to receive said card (haven't gotten the letter as to why I was declined quite yet).
Here's a bit of background:
Age: 21 - still got one more year of school left
Income: 18k + 64k (internship pay + tuition + relocation from my company)
Payments: Never missed one, always pay bills back in full
Credit Utilization: <10%
Other Red Flags: none (no collections, missed payment, etc.)
Current Credit:
- $3,000 limit Wells Fargo CC (had it for 2+ years)
- 36mo autolease (cosigned with my father), payments are $214/month
TU: 755
EQ: 729
Hard Pulls: 5x in the last 2 years, 2 are recent (2 for the car, 2 for housing, 1 for the Prestige)
Spending Habits/Interests:
- I travel for school and leisure a bunch
- Gas $$
- Dining Out
Based on these, and some research, I found that the Chase Freedom card, Amex Gold, and Citi Premier to be good, but higher-ish level cards. I checked their prequalification websites and I prequalify for all of them! The Discover it Card seems good too (prequal workson it as well). From what I've read, Chase's prequalification is a pretty decent indicator of acceptance (I also somehow managed to prequalify for the Chase SPC)
Any advice for a newbie like me? Which should I apply for?
What was foolish? You should easily qualify. Unless they think income issue. Credit wise. You are outstanding. But citi is conservative to say the least.
