Gold Card Approval Odds?

Hey everyone,

Been reading the forms forever but this is my first time posting!

I am considering applying for the American Express Gold Card. Here's a little about me and my stats. I am a college student and will be living off campus next semester and buying all of my groceries so I want the gold card for its supermarket categories. I also like to travel on my breaks so I would love to get into Amex's MR point system. Look at my stats and let me know if I should wait a few months till the end of summer or pursue another card. Thanks in advance!

Stats:

TU: 729, 1 inquiry

EQ: 714, 4 inquiries

Two accounts: 

Discover it student card: 7 months old, never carried a balance, utilization at 3%, Cl 2,200

Federal student loan: 8 months old. Balance $5,690. This loan is deferred until graduation in three years so I do not think that balance is factored into the approval process or not.

AAoyA: 7.5 months

Over the summer I will be able to claim an income of 33,000 annually.

I am prequalified on Amex site.

My roommate pretty much has the same profile as I do and just got an instant approved for the card. The only difference is that he has a larger income.

Go to the Amex website and check their pre-qualification app and see if you can be preapproved.  Id think you should be ok. Good luck

Quoting only TU and EQ makes me think you’re getting your scores from Credit Karma or some other similar VantageScore site. Do the 7-day trial at www.creditchecktotal.com to get your real scores.

That being said, an AmEx prequal is usually very solid so your FICO scores likely are good enough. Let us know!
