Golden 1 Issued Me (2) 20k Lines By Mistake -

So, about four days ago I applied for a Golden 1 credit card and it was approved, the limit was 20k. I called in and the guy I talked to said, you want a new card and not an increase on your current card right and I said yes. So after I got off the call I got an email that stated my card was approved and on the way. When I checked on the application, again it said apporved 20k.

However, when I logged into my account today I see they increased my current card limit from 7k to 20k and I also see a new card listed, I don't see the credit limit yet, but I assume it will be 20k, since that is what I applied for and was approved for.

Is it possible when I get the new card in the mail and activate it, the system will see that the increase to 20k was already applied to another account and not activate the new card or do you think I might luck out and have the new card with a 20k limit and have my current card with the increased limit of 20k, as well ?

Often times, if they catch their mistake during an internal audit, then that second one could be rescinded. No one here is an insider with Golden's UW or internal processes when something like this occurs, so hard to say what they'll do, if anything.

*IF* for any reason it goes undetected and you end up with an extra CC plus the CLI, then it comes out in your favor. Otherwise, expect it to be adjusted if anything. Mistakes happen soooo.

I bet they don't catch it and you'll be fine. Maybe getting a new account caused the system to give you a credit limit increase? Or possibly, the rep put one in for you and then realized afterwards that you had wanted a new account...

Well, now I am little worried, still don't have the card yet. I got the email that stated it was mailed on 4/5/22, I assume from Sacramento. I am in Southern CA. I got the truth in lending statment in the US mail that lists my apr, that document is dated 4/5/22. When I log in, I don't see the card listed in my account overview, but when I go to look at documents and statements, I see a second last four of a new card number listed.

I am afraid to call CS because I don't want to draw attention to their possible mistake. What should I do ? Wait longer to get the card in the mail or call them, its been 9 business days.

Hi @Andy77   Enjoy the weekend. It seems pretty certain at least the one card is coming. Hang tight! Somtimes they can take 10 days + to come into the post box. I have had this type of thing happen to me twice. Both situations pre approved offers. Once, long ago, way back in the late '80s. A bank called Security Pacific National Bank. I responded to seperate mailers. Sure enough both cards came with the stated limit on the offers. Eventually, over time, I combined them into one card. Then more recently with Bank of the West. Similar instance, the card I knew I was getting came in the mail right away. The 2nd one, 'totally out of the blue' came in  the mailbox about 4 months later. . Same limit, but different account number. Both banks never caught their mistake.   Keep us posted!

Just don't do what I recently did. Recently got a new cc from BOA, though they took limit from my only card to open this one so wasn't really keen on using it. So weeks go by still hadn't received it, worried about fraud called in and was issued a new one, was told nobody tried to use it so that was good. A day or two later I was looking at the envelopes of mail I sometimes don't open since they are usually denials or maybe just miscellaneous  cc jargon. Happened to see BOA, opened it p and lol, I had the original card the whole time.  Never felt like it had a cc in it when I received it probably why I just put it aside this goes right up there with my shredding a Discover check after getting millions of Discover cli denial letters😅

Ok here is a crazy update. I got a card yestrday via UPS after I called them days ago and said my card should have been mailed on April 6 and I never got it, so they agreed to UPS it to me and I got it yesterday. When I actived the card, that stated 20k on the paper that came with the card, my prior card deactiveated.

So I called them yesterday and was on the phone with them over one hour. They said, Oh we thought you just applied for a CLI and your new limit is 20k. I said, no I didn't where is my prior card with the 7k limit. So, I said, check with the department that takes what is typed into the applications and you will see I applied for a brand new card, not a CLI. So, long story short, they admittd to their mistake and said they ould fedex me a new card with a 20k limit and make the current card I got today the 7k limit. The next problem was the 6800.00 balance on the card that I thought would stay with the 20k limit, now it is 7k. They said, since you applied and were approved for the new card with the 20k limit, we can't combine limts and we have to make the card number that you just got today your new 7k card and send you in the mail the new 20k card, per what was put and approved on the application. I said, well if you do that my utilization will get all messed up (6800.00 balance on a card with a limit of 7k). So I said,since you all made this mess, you need to move the 6800.00 balance on my 7k credit limit card to the new card with the 20k limit and they said we can try, call us back when you see the 20k card listed on your profile. So the card was added to my profile yesterday and I will call today and see how they want to move the 6800.00 over. I don't want to do a cash advance.

I also need to remind them that the card now that has the original 7k limit on it should have all the same terms the card always had (the interest rate changed on the account by a hair when they increased the CLI by mistake). I will circle back with an upate on if they transfer the balance to the 20k card. What a real pain in the __________ .

Well, they finally got it all figured out. I now have two cards, one with 20k limit with 6k balance, they were able to move the balance from the 7k card to the card with the 20 limit. 

Glad it all got resolved.
