Fico: 759
Discover it CL: $800
Chase freedom CL: $2,500
What I really want is the Chase Sapphire Preferred.
I've had my Discover card for a year and just got approved for the freedom today,
I can't say I really desire anything else other than the CSP, In tandem with the freedom it will be the best travel oriented card system for me. As i dont spend a lot, I probably should focus getting the most from one card.
Is it a good move to go apply for another card to further increase my overall credit and build history faster, in order to help get the CSP
Or is that unecessary and I should just wait a bit then apply for the CSP?
Any Cards that should be on my radar for a student that wants to travel or just generally great cards? I feel like building a relationship with another bank would make it easier to get approved for a card, say if i had another more basic card from them
yes go for the CSP! If chase only pulled EX for you chances are you will get the 2 for 1 HP deal. I cant guarantte it but i think its well worth a shot just make sure you would have to be able to spend 4.5k on the two cards to get the sign up bonus for both in the next 90 days.
2 for 1 HP deal? I'm not buying a computer haha
Thanks for the enthusiam, I'll sit on it for awhile and get the bonus from the freedom first.
Isnt it true that you could technically pay yourself to get that spending mark at the end of the time frame if you havent hit the goal yet?

2 for 1 hard pull deal. Get two cards with one hard pull. I did it with chase and others have reported success as well.

If it's a card that you really want, I would just go ahead and apply for it now or tomorrow. I really think you will be approved. You have good scores. The only thing they may want to see is a card with a 5k or above limit. If you do decide to apply, I would def do it within a week or two so that they use the same HP. I was blacklisted and applied for the CSP and was approved after getting the 7-10 day message. I then applied for the Freedom a week later and was approved the same way and they used the same HP. Good luck if you decide to go for it!

Oh interesting. Well the thing is I tried to get the CSP a month ago and was denied, then i applied for the freedom today and got it. Still think I should go for it?
Also what do you mean by blacklisted?
When you were denied, did you call for a recon? Did they give you reasons as to why? What did the denial letter say? YMMV, but if you are denied, you can call the recon department and explain your situation and hear what they have to say. I've heard Chase has one of the best recon departments, so you should def take that route if denied.
Blacklisted = automatically denied or given 7-10 review message because of a past derogatory relationship with a bank (i.e. chargeoff, BK, etc.) In my particular case, I had a charge off with Chase in 2009.

OP, you are a student on limited income? Might want to wait. The "2 for 1" sounds like a good deal, until you start stacking multiple spend requirements that are not in your normal CC budget. No, you can't pay yourself to complete the spend requirement. HP are free. They fade with time. Cash, however, does not like to be triffled with.
My advice is to just enjoy the no-AF Freedom for now, get that spend bonus covered, then a few months down the road (there is not a rush for this) app the CSP when you know you have enough spend lined up to cover that as well. The UR points will wait quietly in the Freedom account. No sense getting carried away with any app sprees right now.
Going to point out something that I'm actually surprised hasn't been brought up yet. CSP has a starting limit of 5k and without a card that is close to that limit they will probably deny you. Garden and SP your Discover for CLIs.
Its going to take some time but Chase likes you already having a 5k limit before giving the CSP.

Ah I see. I didn't realize OP was a student. If that's the case, I also agree with the above. Outside of the bonus points that you'll get when you hit the 4k, you probably won't put enough spend on this card to make it worthwhile after that point.
Vispercon...I mentioned that above.
