How reliable are Synchrony pre-approvals?

Applied fire Care Credit and was pre-approved for 15K. Not sure how reliable the prequals are and have heard stories of completing applications and then getting denied. Really don't want to burn a HP and am looking for some feedback

I can't speak for anyone else but here's my experience. I first got a pre-approval for $17k... didn't accept, I let it be for a few days while I weighed other options. I decided to just go for the CareCredit and filled out the pre-approval again. This time it came back with something like $6k! I declined to proceed, and went back through it again (can't remember if I did it right away, or later). The third time I did the pre-approval it came back with $17k again, I accepted, and they approved it instantly, so.... Although a strange experience altogether, it was a solid pre-approval for me.

I did the Synchrony pre-qual for 9 cards, all approved including the PPMC and Care Credit, with Fico 8's in the mid 600's, albeit with 1k to 5k sl's. 

5 have  grown nicely in the past year with limited use.

I have 8 of their cards from pre-approvals without a hard pull. I locked all 3 credit profile right after I got the pre approval. Then I hit the button and bang approved.

They are legit.  I was preapproved for care credit around 4k.  Once I accepted they asked me for a validation of my state issued ID.  I SENT THAT THROUGH THE ONLINE PORTAL (it was very basic). Called them and approved instantly.  If they preapproved you for 17 k, the id say your totally fine, go for it.
