 Then be careful responding to it. Very simple way to make sure it's not a phishing e-mail: hover over the link it wants you to click. Do you see penfed.com (or whatever PenFed's real domain is) in the link's URL? If not, it could be fake.

I really like Pen Fed. I have three cards with them now. I use the Platinum Rewards Visa for all my gas purchases (5%) back, and groceries (3%) back. They just make things easy

Short version - text viewed when hovering over a link is exploitable and should NOT be your sole source of warm&fuzzy.

My point wasn't that I don't know if it's a phishing email.  They always turn me down so I don't trust them .I've a master degree in computer science.

If they don't like you they usually HATE me 

Cost me a HP last year with nothing to show for it and the other day by some miracle I see this pre-approval on my account:

Needless to say I am shocked! I had all but given up on them.

But as luck would have it - not needing that card right now.
