Inadvertently applied for regular Discover card vs secured and denied - What to do?

Hi all! First post so please be gentle. I have recently become obsessed with credit scores and thist passion has bled into wanting to help others I know.  Trying to help my sister with her credit, I sent her a referral link for Discover thinking the link would allow her to apply for the secured card as her scores are <600. She inadvertently applied for regular card and was denied.  Should she reapply today for the secured card with the hope that mulitple HPs can be merged or would she have a better chance of waiting until tomorrow or possiblly longer?  I have searched the web without luck so hoping someone here would have some thoughts.  I am leaning toward waiting until tomorrow.  Multiple HPs seems insignificant at this point.  Last HP 11/2016 for store card which was approved. Thanks!

Calling in and explaining the desire to be reconsidered for a secured card is probably your best bet for a quick and easy turn around.

Another poster was just denied Discover IT but shortly after received an email inviting them to app for Discover Secured. So maybe wait for the email or call as for a credit analyst.

Thank you Glen_M. She had called three times. Once just to confirm she had applied for regular card; Second time was connected back to main menu; Third was told she would need to apply online and maybe wait until tomorrow just to be safe.  I also called and was told she would need to apply online but no advice on whether to wait or not.  I hope they didn't automatically consider her for secured card and not a candidate.
