Invitations to apply (citi)

I got my first ever email invitation to apply with actual invitation from Citi for their AA card. It does not say pre-qualified or pre-approved. Is this just pure marketing? If so, what's the point of an invitation number?

Marketing at its finest. They want you to apply. Use the force to decide if its worth it

I got several of these before I got a preapproval for my Citi DC.  I think they are a waist.

And don't forget that pre-approvals aren't always needed.

I was recently instantly approved for a Citi Costco card with a $4k limit

As well as:

Amex BCE $1k
Discover $7k
Chase FU $2k
PenFed $10.5k
Care Credit $9k

Had I only gone by pre-approvals/qualified, I'd just have my Merrick

If you don't mind me asking, what were your scores when you apply for City and Chase? And, what do they pull? I'm thinking of getting 0% APR card with either of them but I think my scores might be too low.

They both pulled EX for me here in CA.

My score was between 677-686.
