I applied for the Southwest card by CHASE and I received a letter in the mail this week asking for verification of my date of birth to be mailed to them before a decision can be made on rather they will approve or deny my application. Is this normal?
Yes, this is normal for Chase. Standard verification depending on where your application kicked an exception or flag.
Thanks FinStar, would you happen to know if this means a “ approval" is coming my way since CHASE wanted more information?
they can verify all they want...
good luck

Sure, this is definitely pending approval once you supply the docs they requested. An item to keep in mind, be patient on the verification process since it can take a few days or a week or so. If you have a Chase banking relationship, stop by the branch and have the banker fax or scan the documents and have them forward to the card services verifications department. Otherwise, be sure to fax them the info or snai-mail as requested (get receipt confirmation).
Thanks for the information, I have Macy's, Walmart, Kohl's and an Apple Barclay's card. I'm a joint holder for Discover and it would be nice to have the Southwest as well. I will keep my fingers crossed, I applied for the AMEX card and was denied so I will wait until Dec to apply for that one again.

Definitely follow up with them periodically on the progress since sometimes it can drag. Best of luck with the outcome on your SWA card!
I had to submit verification documents via the reconsideration line. They provided me with a fax. It was fine. Once everything was updated you will be transferred back through the system as if you are applying for the card again for the first time. It approved for me as my first card that I can actually use without making two or more payments a month at a $5000 limit. Opened a checking account and auto approved for a second card of choice.
Sure is normal. The first card I opened with them was same thing. I was approved after ID was recieved.
You're approved! I have been through this with them. Just make sure your fax isnt too dark I went through that and it took more time.
