I don't think it's silly. People apply for CSP just because it's metal. In your case, you plan to use the actual benefits. 


Funny you say that, I did do that with CSP, but then I saw the benefits of UR and liked them so much I added the Ink+.  

 

The thing is I don't want to spread my spend so after the 3K there will be little except for hotel bookings for the 4th night free.

people use the platinum in the exact same ways you do. they don't swipe it because the earning rate sucks but the benefits are good. if you have two cards for that then so be it. look at all the people that app for a card because it looks cool. you're above that, at least. lol

Oh the vanity of it all.......You can become a travel mad man at times when going from terminal to terminal and delay after delay, lol!
