Joining PenFed?

Just joined the Navy League SD and applied for membership with NFCU.  I know I can use that membership to apply for PenFed.  Wondering if there are any tricks to joining?  From what I have read, I can use my HP from membership for a credit card or CLOC?

Any specific tips on how to go about joining? I know NFCU is best on the paper app, does the online app work for PenFed?

Thanks all!

Re: Joining PenFed?

I joined online through the navy league myself and the process was really easy. I have a savings account with them now and have the promise and the travel rewards Amex. Got everything with 1 HP on EQ. Pull should be good for anything for 90 days if I'm right. Give it a try to join online it's pretty easy.

Thanks! Did you do it all online in regards applying for the credit cards too?

Re: Joining PenFed?

What other means of joining Pen Fed are available for non active military customers?  Does Pen Fed accept honorably discharged vets like Navy does now?

Not meaning to hijack your thread OP. My apologies in advance...

Re: Joining PenFed?

You can join navy league or there is an option when you join for like a donation or something. Not sure about discharged vets.

Re: Joining PenFed?

To answer your question yes I did just apply online for everything as penfed isn't in the state where I live. I've never called them yet for anything either just have done everything straight through the online portal.

Re: Joining PenFed?

I joined PenFed and I'm not former military or anything like that. You don't need NLUS for PenFed just for NFCU

Hey Trekkie, how did you go about joining PenFed without a military association?

Re: Joining PenFed?

I joined online with my NLUS membership as my eligibility option. I was approved for an account, then apped for the promise visa and was approved for $1k. Then I apped for the gold visa and was approved for $1.5k after I requested a slightly larger limit to take advantage of the balance transfer offer. I also opened a checking account with a $500 overdraft line of credit. All approved from one HP.

Re: Joining PenFed?

Hubby joined last week. There's an option to donate to an organization (2 choices). 1 is a $17 donation, can't remember the other. That plus the $5 minimum for an account will qualify you.
