Credit Karma says I'm guaranteed approval for either Citi Simplicity, Diamond Preferred, or Double Cash. The problem is when I filed for BK-7 in 2006, Citi was included.....
so what does that say about this so-called "guarantee"??
edited to add: when I went to the Citi cards preselect website, I was pre-selected for all those above.
Typically when you're pre-qualified for a card it's based on the raw numbers. So, you could have an 850 score and be shown as pre-qualified for a Barclays card, but the missing information is you've been blacklisted by Barclays for defaulting on a card 15 years ago. Amex is a great example. Previously, you could show as pre-qualified even if you had burned them before. It isn't until you actually submit the application that your info is ran against their internal records. At that point you would be denied without a HP. None of the companies like credit karma, or the marketing companies hired to send mailers, have access to those internal records. Nor do they take into account things like chase's 5/24 rule into account.
The CK guarantee is $50 paid* to you if you don't get approved one of the aforementioned cards.
Since the burn has been over 16 years, you have probably been forgiven by CB.
Are you interested in any of them?
* = fine print

I looked back at my previous threads because I knew I posted about a Citi rejection. Back in 2016, I applied for Simplicity but got rejected with a letter stating "Too many inquiries." I believe ,if I were to apply again, I would get too many inquiries again due to a recent purchase of a new car (6 inqs), successful apps with 2 more CCs, and a BOA reject. My CK account says I have 9 inquiries.
I do want to eventually get back into Citi. Getting one now with a 21-month 0% APR balance transfer option would be sweet.
It's hard to take anything the CK algorithm does seriously. My guarantee cards are always the worst subprime rebuilders and all my ficos are over 800 with no negatives.
