Looking for credit cards for my credit scores

Trying to secure our first home and it has been recommended that we get at least 2 credit cards. Currently don't have any, but my 3 scores are as follows: 620-Equifax, 638-Experian, and 613-Transunion. Looking for recommendations on what cards have been approved for these scores from these bureaus, and also cards that report to all 3 bureaus. Thank you so much for your help!

Re: Looking for a credit card

Hi I would recommend the discover IT or the capital one QuicksilverOne. Sometimes the limits are small but you can generally get a increase after 3-6 months . Also try your bank or credit union as they usually give more love as far as SL and interest rates.

Starting Score: 650
Current Score: 762
Goal Score: 800

Re: Looking for credit cards for my credit scores

Its difficult to advise without more information,  however I'd assume with those scores there were issues previously. I'd say a good place to start is something like a Credit One, First Progress (secured), or Capital One platinum.  They are all high interest/high fee cards so i would recommend getting out and moving to more mainstream cards as soon as you're up around 680 plus. There are TONS of great resources here in the Rebuilding section. I suggest you do a little searching there.

Re: Looking for credit cards for my credit scores

Who do you bank with? Have you checked to see if they have starter or secured cards?

Are you a member of a credit union?

Check prequel sites such as Capital One (avoid their secured card, it will not graduate) or Discover.

We bank with Simple/bbva -- tried discovery and only pre-qualified for a secured card. Haven't tried capital one yet.

Re: Looking for credit cards for my credit scores

@Anonymous Welcome to the boards! Hmm, your scores are in the "fair/average" range. Outside of Capital One's Platinum and Quicksilver 1, you would likely be looking at a secured card.

If you go the secured route, I would suggest a card that graduates. My recommendations are:

- Discover (you can check the prequalify tool on their website to see if you might qualify for a standard cc)

- Navy FCU secured (if you have a way in)

- Bank of America Secured (even if you apply for a standard card they can counter with a secured offer)

- Honorable mentions Citi, SDFCU, DCU, and any local credit union or bank that you might be part of.

Question, do you have any negatives on your report?

BBVA shows Optimizer Credit Card®. I don't know if it graduates. You'll have to do some research or ask the csr.

Who do you bank with? There's a chance your relationship there might help with getting a first card as well.

I've merged your two identical threads. Please avoid cross posting, it creates unnecessary confusion.

Thank you.
