Looking for recommendations

Started rebuilding in August 2017, FICO 8 scores were EQ 562, TU 582, EX 580. Credit One $300 limit, opened 10/2016 received auto CLI to $450, Cap One $300 secured card opened 9/2017. Credit Builder Loan with GTE Financial Credit Union $500 opened 6/2017.

AOA - EQ 2 yr 11 mo, TU 5 yr 5 mo and EX 6 yr 4 mo. Inqs EQ 6, TU 3 and EX 6. Two small medical collections remaining for $118 and $218.

Approved last week for Disco IT Chrome with $2400 SL - wasn’t expecting the approval.

Looking for 1-2 other cards to eventually drop Credit One and Cap One since it’s secured.

Current FICO 8 EQ 664, TU 624, EX 643.

Any suggestions on what to apply for? Should I try now after Disco approval (think it was a soft pull since I haven’t receive notification of inquiry). Income is $85k annually before incentives.

Re: Looking for recommendations

Your cap 1 will unsecure at 11 months of perfect payment history so that should be a keeper Imo. Have you tried your local credit union? Do you qualify for nfcu? Penfed etc... Dv

Re: Looking for recommendations

Check your preapproval offers to prioritize what card you'd like (rewards, no AF, balance transfer). I had similar scores last month and decided to go for a card that I would use frequently, but also maximize rewards to keep me sane. I would say in your instance, try a capital one "quickilver/ platinum," chase freedom/ freedom unlimited/ slate, or any card that makes sense for you. Try rebuilding first and who knows what you'll get in a month...best of luck!

Thanks, haven’t tried CU, applied for Chase Freedom amd was approved for $500 (not thrilled since Disco was higher) and Amex BCE approved for $500 (not thrilled either). However this will give me a total of 5 cards to grow and hopefully get some CLIs in the next few months.

Re: Looking for recommendations

I was in that situation when I started rebuilding.  I started with crappy cards and crappy limits like you and was appreciative of them.  My breakthru card was Bank of America with SL of 5k.  Things got easier after that.  I had a banking relationship with them though.  If I had been banking with Chase, I would have done the same with Chase, etc.  So if you have not already, focus on where you have a banking relationship OR on banks you have never burned.  Sounds like you are off to a great start with what you have.  That AMEX will grow and so will the Chase.  The answer might be that you are already doing what you should be doing.  Sometimes it just comes down to time and patience.  Stay on those CLI requests as soon as you are eligible and push those buttons monthly if SPs.

Re: Looking for recommendations

Good advice to expand on the relationships that are good. I started with 600 credit and one medical collection of $900 and got a Walmart card, just the store credit, with initial $300 starting limit. They cranked it up to $1,300 a month later. After about 6 months or a year with that I got an Ebates card which was my break through card. The starting limit was $8,000 and now is $15,000. My income is less than half of yours (no degree). So credit and savings are very important for me. My score is now 770 on FICO 8 TransUnion after getting these cards and getting the medical collection dismissed and removed from all three reports because they had no proof it was my bill.

Walmart and Ebates are both synchrony Bank.

Re: Looking for recommendations

Synchrony Bank is amazing!  That might be the correct recommendation actually.  I apped for the Synchrony Paypal card and was approved for 3k.  4 months later I was immediately approved with no questions up to 10k thru the live chat.
