Hey guys
I was looking at where to apply for credit cards and nothing seemed that appealing, based on what I currently have.
- No store cards - ever
- I already have the Barclays Arrival+
- I already have the Chase Sapphire Preferred (and Chase Freedom has no use for me)
- I already have 2 or 3 credit products with Citibank, and feel like asking them for more of anything would be likely to fail, or look weird in their risk evaluation
- American Express won't lend me more than they currently have, across any products.
and the Discover It seems.... contrived. I get a mailer about this card probably every day.
Anyway, just curious. I don't have any credit union cards, so that might be the next move.
So I was thinking maybe I could go for an additional card with Barclays, or Chase, or Bank of America, or Wells Fargo. But I haven't seen any decent offerings from them, and even the ones with annual fees don't seem to stand out, but I haven't done any shopping around.
I noticed I could spare a decrease in my Average Age of Accounts, and an increase in my number of inquiries.
Any product suggestions?

Just curious why you don't like chase freedom, if you have an CSP. 5x categories UR points can be pretty easy way to boost your UR balance. Another option if you have an Citi AA card would be go for barclays us airways card that has 50k signup with single purchase to activate the 50k, it does come with an non waivable 89 AF.

Sure lets take a repeat look at the CHASE FREEDOM CALENDAR for 2014
Hm alright, I'm not going to Brooklyn for Lowes home improvement stores
For 6 months out of the year, gas stations are one of the only things in the categories, which, equally have no use in my city
Chase Freedom because I'm going to go to Kohl's, ever? So July - September is completely out of the question
In a three month time period I would probably spend $80 at movie theatres.
Restuarants and Amazon.com time periods look cool.
Ok, this card doesn't have NO USE, just marginal, very marginal, use. So maybe I can play the points game with it.
So those are the things that go through my head when I look at Chase Freedom. I'm sure its awesome for the rest of America.
edit: According to one of my card's "spending charts" I spent several grand on "Restuarants and Entertainment" in the last 3 months. thats like, a lot of potential points
I'll *consider* it, but the $1500 max thing is a little annoying. Am I doing the math correct, where spending $1,500 would get me 7,500 points in the 5% categories, equivalent to $75?
I guess the question will be what are you hoping to get back from the card? Do you really need the card because you have some pretty good card in your signature. I personally apply to cards only with huge bonuses with the plan to get free flights or giftcards. If you don't have any need, then I'd say hold off applying..

Dunno! I've never heard that one!
WOW you have 15k with Alliant? I have a bs installment loan with them to boost my credit score to the inflated premium that it currently is. Maybe I should app them! I don't have any credit union cards, I remember dismissing their card's promo like the plague

A bunch of points, high limits, a complimentary spa day every third wednesday, and a free round trip flight every quarter.
but like, annual fee is optional. and I have some general expectations about the lack of foreign transactions fees so it would be extremely negligent to mess up a product with that detail
You re correct that 5% of $1500 is $75.
Discover IT generally has the same categories as Freedom, but a little broader. Not sure if Home Depot makes a difference to you vs. Lowes. It also is open to online shops in Q4, rather than just amazon.
You might also want to consider Citi Double Cash (2% back), Capital One S (1.5% cash back, but signup bonus), and Chase AARP (3% back on restaurants. Sallie Mae may also be a good option, since that gives you $750 a month at bookstores, including amazon.
