Lowe's denied my application with a credit score of 800 and only 3 hard pulls (1 mortgage, 1 car, 1 CLI) on the credit report. They pull Trans Union. I have no negative history such as collections or late payments. The hard pull number was given as reason for the denial.
I tried calling Lowe's as well as Synchrony bank - Lowe's pitched me to Synchrony, Synchrony said to call Lowe's. I asked in store and was given a number and got a guy telling me to call Trans Union. What for I don't know. I asked for a supervisor and he told me that they can't overturn the computer decision as they would have to overturn all other decisions too (really)?
In any case, any recent experience with Lowe's applications? How long should I wait to try and reapply? The mortgage was pulled in Nov 2016, car and the two credit cards (the one on it and of course now Lowe's) were all in January 2017. Any suggestions how I can get the card, how long to wait to reapply? (As a new homeowner this is of course a very handy card to have)
That seems very odd that Synchrony Bank would deny your application for 3 credit inquires on TU? I would wait 30 days and re apply, as they probably wont reverse their decision, have you tried for Home Depot or Menards? With your credit score, you should have no problems getting approved with (Citi) Home Depot or (Cap One) Menards. Home Depot will also increase your credit line same day as approval if need be. Best of luck!
That is very strange. I just applied and was approved for a Lowe's card about an hour ago.

Hello AverageJoesCredit, thanks for your opinion - sorry about the different handle, but I wasn't able to log in with the prior credentials or kmessmer for some reason.
I thought too it shouldn't be a problem, but as it turns out it is. And so far no they hold it to the computer. I'll call them once more to try and then as you suggest, I'll try again in a month - in-store this time. Somewhere I read that's supposed to be better.
Hello patrick00032001, thanks for your opinion - sorry about the different handle, but I wasn't able to log in with the prior credentials or kmessmer for some reason.
I think I have 12 accounts - some of them are closed. The new mortgage and car loan have not yet appeard. Generally, I only use 4 of my credit cards (2 Boa, 2 Citi). I have a CareCredit, but never use it. Credit utilization is generally below 10% - it was 7 at the time they pulled the report. I have no late payments, no collections or other black marks. I think total credit history is 9 years. My income is between 75 and 90K - they asked for net, so I worked that out.
I can't see anything that would generally spook them. I had no issue getting the mortgage and car loans at the lowest available rate...
BTW - I like the Lowe's better for the 5% discout and also the Lowes is just up the road from me. Home Depot is a bit of a hike...
CincyReds1882 - when was your last credit inquiry from those 8?
Since two of them were within a week of applying for the Lowe's perhaps that is a factor. How long ago did you apply for credit before the Lowe's card?
The last week of December i did a mini spree. all from 12/27/16...
