Lowes app denial 7-10 day message

Had a bit of a flooding issue over the Thanksgiving holiday and will need to redo some flooring.  Went to Lowe's and apped in hopes for some of their deals.  They asked how much we wanted and I didn't think it through.  Immediately said 5k.  Denied with 7-10 day message.

Full disclosure - this was DW's app with scores in mid 700's, much better than mine.  I feel terrible.

My Questions:

1.  Should I have said 1k or < 2k?  I was thinking of the percentage balance we might carry and was hoping to keep it under 20% and preferably under 10.

2.  Is this most likely a straight denial?  The cashier said that sometimes (many?) a card may still be issued but for a lesser amount than requested during the app.  Anybody heard of that?  I know Synchrony balances can grow and we would've ended up with 5k most likely within the next year or so, anyway.

3.  Should I call CS and talk to them or just wait for the letter?

Thanks,

Joe

I'm actually a bit surprised that with scores in the mid-700s your DW had any trouble at all.  Actually, with a score in the mid-700s a credit line of much higher than even $5k should have been possible.

I'm not sure what the latest data is on Synchrony recons, but IMO with those stats it would be worth a shot.  I'm sure others will be posting soon with recon data points and pointers.

Hang in there!

Sorry to hear that. You say they asked you what you wanted in the store? I apped in the store. Lowe's CS didn't ask me. They lady just instructed me as I used the terminal at her register.

I wonder if it could be a verification thing? I'd call in and pursue it further.
As UncleB says, its doubtful the limit you requested had anything to do with a 7 to 10 message. Especially if the fico scores are in the 700s. Their limits grow faster than anything I've experienced.

I can't help but wonder if it's verification as well. Be on the lookout for a letter from them. DGF's mom apped ToysRUs instore two weeks ago and was told 7-10 days and she ended up getting a letter and then approved once she called in. I've seen the same thing on the commercial side of Synchrony as well when I apped Sam's Business MC. They ran the app instore put me on the phone with a rep who said 7-10 days and it ended up just being verification. If you wife's TU is mid 700's I have a hard time believing she wouldn't get approved for Lowe's and on a call to Credit Solutions then getting it bumped to 15k or more for the CL.
