Received an offer to apply for the Luxury Card Mastercard at either the Titanium ($295 AF), Black ($495 AF) or Gold ($995 AF) level!
The Gold card is crafted with 24K-Gold-Plated Carbon. Perks are point based (says 2X the points compared to AMEX Platinum), $200 in Airline Credit, $100 Global Entry credit (TSA Fast Pass basically), Airport Lounge Access plus luxury gifts delivered throughout the year.
I showed my wife the application for the Gold card (hey go for the best!) and her card will only be an additional $295 per year. Those were not tears of joy running down her face (I kid). I am flatered that they think I need and would qualify for their Luxury Card MC. Think we need to pass this year.
Honestly never even heard of this card before.
It's new. Sort of. Barclays re-worked the Black card.
As a 1-year card, however, the Gold Card can be an interesting proposition.
You are charged $995 up front for the AF, true. However you earn back 50,000 points after $3k spend, and at the worst case scenario, those 50,000 points can be used at 2c per point for statement credit, which is.... $1k cash back.
Then, you have the $200 airline credit, potential $100 Global Entry credit, lounge access, and earning 2c on each dollar spend, potentially more on airline redemptions.
Then at the end of the year, one has a shiny Gold Card to look at.
I'll give the $995 to my Grandson's team for uniforms and I can get everything else I need from my regular credit cards. They all pay for goods and services the same and vanity is not my thing.
That is an interesting point. Spend $3000 to get 50,000 points (I'm guessing one time deal?) Some of the perks are tempting, I only travel once a quarter on business and occasionally for vacation. May have to re-read the invite and see if I can game the system for at least a year.
Unless the 50,000 points is a yearly thing I couldn't see keeping the card.
Thanks for the info.
