Marriott Rewards Application

I decided to apply for the marriott rewards card today, with much hesitation because I burned Chase 5 years ago. My reason to apply was for an upcoming trip with them at a sawgrass in Florida. I got the 30 day message, they need more time to review. I guess that is better then an automatic denial. I am sure this means I will be denied. Oh well...no guts not glory, but with this app I am doubting there will be glory haha.

Re: Marriott Rewards Application

I'm not 100% sure but generally I think people say to app for Chase on weekdays so you can immediately call in after a 30-day message to see if they need verification.  Not sure if the verification backdoor number is open on weekends but never hurts to try.

I also believe you can call in to the application status number which was 888-338-2586 as of April -- check the backdoor numbers thread to see if there's a new one.

Re: Marriott Rewards Application

Try again Monday during business hours and see if you can find the underwriter backdoor number for Chase to do a recon if needed.

I'm not 100% on it but the last recon number change was in September I think and I believe it switched to 888-270-2127 but confirm that in the backdoor numbers thread.

Chase recons can go either way.  On top of that, getting denied by one recon CSR doesn't mean you're denied completely.  There are some stories of folks calling 2 or 3 people to finally get approved.

Be ready with answers to their questions as to why you're worthy of the card, etc.  I kinda wish we had a recon questions and answers megathread, but as far as I know, we don't!

Re: Marriott Rewards Application

I will give them a ring on Monday and start thinking about why I am worthy of the card. I forgot to mention in my first post that I do had a credit card with them still. It's $500 and I never use it. I did about 5 months ago when I was trying to get my credit score up, which worked but then I was approved for an Amex and started using that one as my main, then got a USAA and that has been my main card now.

I think I know what I will say when they ask questions. Fingers crossed. I will keep you all posted. Thanks for your feedback.

If they do ask questions please post them here, maybe I'll start a recon questions thread later!

Re: Marriott Rewards Application

Best of luck on the approval process. Please let us know what happens and if you call for recon. It took me two attempts to get apporved by Chase, my first denial was due to a paid tax lien, once it was removed I was approved the Marriot Rewards card.

Good luck!

Re: Marriott Rewards Application

I read your thread and plan on calling tomorrow. I see they pulled EXP which is my highest score. If I get approved, that would be wonderful. If not, I was just approved this morning for the Discover Mile's card. Despite any outcome, I am heading off to the garden.
