Has anyone had a meijer store card and closed it to apply for the mastercard? I found out today you can only have one or the other. The person I talked with suggested I close the store card and apply in 30 days for the mastercard. But I really like the discounts and rewards on my card so I would hate to close it and risk being denied the MC. Has anyone done this??? I'm really interested in finding out what happened with anyone else who has been there.
What does the MC offer that you do not already get besides using it anywhere.
I can totally relate to just wanting the store branded MasterCard/ Visa version of a card. But like the other poster stated, is there any reason you need it to be MC now?
Comenity might issue u another store card if you reapply in 30 days with a EQ score under 700. I'd wait it out till your score increased or wait to see if they send you something offering an upgrade to the mastercard.
There are mperks that are associated only with the mastercard version. I really want that card and I like using it at Meijer..it's not the MC i need I have plenty of those. I want the extra rewards and perks. I am all about getting the most rewards, cash, benefits, etc from my credit cards.
OP, given your recent credit activities and slew of inquiries + new accounts, you would not qualify for the MC. Otherwise, they would've approved you for that from the get-go. If you close it, then you risk (a) not getting approved or (b) getting the store card again.
You're probably right. The representative urged me to close my account and was confident I would get approved based on my payment history for the past two years I've had the card. I'm going to wait.
Aren't the mPerks just the points you get for using it as a MC? If so, depending on the other cards you have it might not really be worth it..?....
Meijer is one store that I do really like, but they are not the closest grocery store to me. Kroger is about half a mile from me and Meijer is about 5 miles away. Costco is only two miles. I kinda wouldn't mind a card from them, but think it would have to be added after my auto loan later this year. Comenity is not very good about upgrading from a store card to a Visa/MC product, but I wish they were! I used to have a Marathon card with them and asked about upgrading and they said they couldn't, but I could apply for the Marathon Visa, which I think ended up only being a soft pull.
I have the Meijer Master Card, and there are really no perks to speak of, so I wouldn't even worry about it. The mperks are not linked to the credit card at all, and the only "Points" you get witht the card is, after you spend $1500 you get a coupon for a crappy 5% off groceries for one trip or 15% off merchandise.
I was extremely disappointed in the points program, when I got my first $1500 I expected something really great. Gosh, you can get 5% anytime if you shop during the weekends that they offer the mperks 5% off (which lately has been every weekend that I've checked it).
So I'd hang on to the store card. The Meijer master card is kind of worthless, unless you're just looking for a master card.
