I am rebuilding credit and currently had my Capital One Quicksilver increased from 1k to 4k at the 6 mos credit builder review. I used that card as my primary running on avg about 3k through it, paying in full multiple times monthly.
I am an AU on an Amex card and wanted to apply for my own, and take advantage of the 3x. I applied for the Delta Skymiles and was denied. My numbers are in my signature, and was told that I could not try for the charge card for 30 days. (I am torn by people saying the gold/green have smiliar requirements)
Discouraged, I applied for the Discover It. I was instantly approved, albeit with different terms. I do not carry a balance, so I accepted the offer with a 1600 CL. I tried to call and get that increased twice. They would not, however recommended responsible use and to try and request in 3 months.
I have applied now at 6 months intervals for new credit. (Secured Cap One > Quicksilver > Discover It). Any recommendations on how long I should wait, and what a good next card would be. Should I try Amex again, but the charge card this time?
Also, to Piggy Back on my own question, any recommendations for how to maximize the Discover It CLI?
Should I do the same thing as I did with the Quicksilver with every single purchase on the card w/ multiple payments, or will just using for the 5% categories be sufficient?

I'm in the "heavy use to get CLI" camp for Discover. Have not received a permanent CLI yet, but they gave me a temporary 3k increase, so between BT and new-then-paid charges, a fair amount is running through there in 12 months time. Will check in May 2015 once the temporary CLI expires to see if that worked.
Thanks for the replies.
I haven't had any luck on the pre-qualifer chase site as of yet. I did have a prior closed card with chase PIF from about 7-8 years ago (about 5k). I should be in good standing, and will continue to check.
I think I am in your boat too @Nrb525 re: heavy usage. I think I will move all my purchases to Discover once it gets here and see how it works at my first request.
