Once your scores are all over 660 or so and you continue to have a pulse, you'll have decent chances of approval. You're already much closer than you think.

The Platinum is not an exclusive card reserved for special people with flawless credit.

This!  All the charge cards are "fairly easy" to get, often easier than some Amex credit cards.   Of course, once enough people understand this, some of the shine is lost.

Re: Mission to Platinum Amex

So I just subscribed to the myFICO three bureau service. My Experian bank card 8 score is 678 and BC9 is 671. If they go by Experian, I might have a shot. But if they go by Equifax it's 613 BC8 is 607 BC9 is 628, and Transunion it's 600 BC8 is 610 BC9 is 598.

who do they typically pull?

Also, I noticed I have a medical collection on TU and EQ for under $300 that falls off on May 14th. I guess insurance didn't pay it.

If I take a shot and get declined, by the time the medical collections falls off, would the HP have a big impact, or will it have diminished in those 2 plus months?

Amex will hard pull EX FICO 8, the classic score, not the Bankcard variant. They may SP another bureau at their discretion (I don't know if they do). I would say that after three months, a solo HP won't matter as much, and by six months it would probably be basically irrelevant.

Re: Mission to Platinum Amex

Yes, they did hard pull my EX 8 score. They pulled it without the Experian boost numbers, (I got a letter from a lending company that said they reviewed my credit and pre-approved me for a loan and they quoted my score with the boost, so I guess it depends on who you app through) so the score was 621 and was greeted with a thanks, but no thanks.

Well, at least I know where I stand I guess. Work on removing the CO and have that medical collection fall off while keeping my revolving credit at AZEO.

I'll see what my numbers look like in 3-4 months, and re-evaluate my situation.

Re: Mission to Platinum Amex

My score took a 1 point hit on EX. I removed boost and now have a 620 score. I figured having a non posted number that is a sure thing is better than hoping a lender pulls the boosted score and not sure where I'm at if they don't.

Sorry to hear about the decline.

You have the Quicksilver, sounds like that is several years old. You might call Capital One to see if they can give you a credit limit increase. It's possible they don't. In that case it may make sense to apply for another Quicksilver. Your good payment history can lead to another higher limit CapOne card.

Re: Mission to Platinum Amex

This may have been a coincidence with no coorelation, but a few years ago, I tried for the Amex Delta Gold and was denied. Shortly after, I took up an offer for to open a savings account with them, and a few months later, I got an invite to apply for the Delta Gold and was approved for $1000. Technicially speaking, there was probably no relation to the events, and I've read others echo that, but in my mind, any relationship I could get with them was a possible foot in the door. Just a random idea that may not work, but has no downside either.

The only issue now for me is just getting unstuck from that $1000 lol.

Edit: Now that I think about it, I got the mail invite first and was denied. Later on, I check the prequal, and was able to get the card.

Today was actually my 101st day with my Quicksilver, so I decided to see if I could get a CLI and I was approved for a $100 increase, bringing me to $400. I'm still not sure how I was pre-qualified let alone approved with mid 500 scores, so even having the card is a blessing. My scores have come up a lot since then, and as they continue to rise up, my CLI should go up and the AMEX will eventually be mine.

Sad but true.  I got my platinum card in 1989, when you had to have a 750 score and already have had a green or gold card and spent at least $10K in a year. Platinum doesn't shine the way it used to.
