Ok, so a few months ago (maybe 2?) I added my 15 yr old daughter to my Cap 1 QS1's as an AU. Both her cards are in my safe and she has not used them. She has been on my rebuilding journey and seen what I have done. I explain every step and show her all my mistake and progress. She has her own bank account with a debit card and she manages her own money. Today she got a mailer for a Citi DC card. lol I can't even get that card. Hahaha!! ![]()

Fantastic that you are getting a jump start with her credit, she will be in such a good place at age 18... just hopefully it doesn't get the best of her when she has $100k by week 1 of being 18!!!
I sure hope not. She is very level headed and makes good decisions. I hope that lasts. lol
I sure wish i got started early, great job though getting her on the right path!

Thanks. I am doing for her what my parents didn't do for me. Teaching, not the AU part.
My 18 yr old daughter who had no credit late last year was added to my Quicksilver in September to help build her credit. She uses the card very sparingly. Well her score is Excellent now 750, due to MY on time payments. Go figure. I have been teaching her about credit and bills so she is prepared when she does go off on her own someday.
Yes Yes YESSS!!!! Educate that child I wish my parents were educated properly about credit when I was a child so I would have had something to learn from as opposed to wait til im in my 30's to find a forum site dedicated to it (GOD BLESS THE INTERNET) You are doing the right thing beyond messure. Im proud to say I share the Forums with someone like you I myself have been adding my kids without there knowledge yet. My oldest son is 15 & my youngest son is 4 and a gang of cheerleaders in between. I plan to educate at 16.... Working age... I figure they will actually have a physical example of money to look at and watch grow and dwindle that way they will feel the lesson as opposed to just knowing it. A little verbal education here and there helps too but I wanna make sure they have good credit before college.

I couldn't agree more with all of you. I trashed my credit at 16 and only got into the 600's at the end of 2015 and I am 44 now. 21% for a car finance? Been there. Never again.
I found CK (kind of like the rope that leads to the life preserver when you are afloat in a sea of debt) and then this place (the life preserver) and I am forever grateful. Being single helps. Nothing against spouses but me and my ex's all had similar tastes, if you have it, spend it. It is much easier to keep one person in line than it is two. People used to tell me "put it on a credit card" when I could not afford something I really needed. I was too embarassed to say I was too busy maxing what few low limit cards I had on stuff that was not needed. Now I don't have that problem and it is such a relief. That is what I am trying to pass on to my baby girl. She is learning too and that makes me proud. I catch her mkaing good decisions and when she sees me looking at or talking about something I want she helps keep me from being an idiot and buying it. lol

This is actually very true, I added my brother as a AU (Before my mom killed his credit) and he had a score of over 780 on Equifax when they pulled his first app, my father was closer to 800 as a au because he had a AAOA of almost 8 years!! And here is sit with a 667 to a 686 because of a volintary repossession!! Ugh..
Good luck though with teaching your child, getting them started early is very important and espcially when college rolls around will help immensely
