My brothers first two credit cards.

My brother graduated from high school in June after turning 18  in January and it was time to go hunting for his first credit card (or two).

I didn't have the luxury of AU's when I was his age, but he's been added to a couple of my cards for a while now and has an AAoA of 1.5 years, 35K of open lines & 0% util.

So we sat down, discussed a few key pieces of information and along the way he applied for a Discover IT (regular), joined NFCU and applied for a gorewards card.

Both went pending, discover for proof of student status and NFCU because who knows. But here's to hoping he gets approvals! He'll be set for a good year at least.

Has anyone else had luck with NFCU as a first card? I've seen quite a few discovers as first cards so I don't think he'll have an approval issue there.

Re: My brothers first two credit cards.

NFCU was not my first card, however, when I signed up for a card right after joining, it went pending. And my husband's app also went pending, and he was a member for 29 years before applying for a card. We were both approved for sizable limits within 24 hours.

Having the app go pending is not all that unusual. I'd not worry.
