My chances with BoA and TD bank.

I am back to the states after 7 long  months overseas 🙃, so I am catching up with my credit. on 7/29 applied for SDFCU cash+ card, the next day received an email to sign Docs and upload a copy of my DL and proof of residence, still waiting for the final decision. Now I am aiming for a TD bank card ( no relationship), also I would like to get back with BoA (iiB) even with a secured card 😎. Question what are my chances?

 Inquiries: Ex 2/12, 6/24 Tr 4/12, 6/24 (August will be 2/12) Eq 8/12 12/24 (August will be 4/12).

New accounts: Affinity + loc, PenFed are not reported yet.

Amazon store card about 3 months old. The rest +12 months old.

Bk 3 years old, UT <1%.

Thanks and have a great weekend.

I catch a lot of flack around here for saying what I'm about to say:

  • Your odds of getting a BofA card, even secured, are somewhere between slim and none.
  • Your odds of getting a TDBank card, especially if it is secured, are pretty good.

Chapter 13:

  • Burned: AMEX, Chase, Citi, Wells Fargo, and South County Bank (now Bank of Southern California)
  • Filed: 26-Feb-2015
  • MoC: 01-Mar-2015
  • 1st Payment (posted): 23-Mar-2015
  • Last Payment (posted): 07-Feb-2020
  • Discharged: 04-Mar-2020
  • Closed: 23-Jun-2020

I categorically refuse to do AZEO!

I would say, an unsecured TD Bank card, probably not as optimistic on those odds.  Then again, there isn't a whole lot of information shared about your profile so difficult to speculate.  Secured TD Bank card is a possibility, but every BK profile is different.

Bank of America secured card, I'd put those odds as 50/50, but it depends on how much they were IIB for.  The timeframe (~3 years) may prove iffy, though.

That said, is there anything not covered (cash back or rewards-wise) by the cards you've been recently approved (Affinity + PenFed + Amazon)?

@FinStarI am only thinking of ways to improve my file, burning some inquiries for a better result is the only way to go. I know time will heal wounds, but playing the game is fun too.

If you included BOA in a BK if it hasn't been over 10 years min.......I wouldn't waste a hard pull trying to find out.

Re: My chances with BoA and TD bank.

@TekkenQQ7, just one datapoint; I didn't include either BofA or TDBank in my Chapter 13, but I'd been a BofA client for many years, so after my discharge I applied for one of their secured credit cards, denied, appealed, denied again.  TDBank immediately approved me for a secured card with a $5,000 limit, and then followed that love up by graduating it to unsecured after only six months and at the same time promoted the card to a Signature Visa.

While I don't have knowledge of BoA's approval for iib... I do know that they tend to be more lenient to those who bank with them... with enough cash held in an account (savings, checking or investment) your odds of approval increase... I also know first hand that if they really don't like you, they won't let you open a deposit account.

I burned them for $3 on a savings account I had forgotten about (account went negative in 1997)... in 2010 I was told I could not open an account because of my previous account.  In 2018 I tried again and was informed I would need to visit the branch the previous account was opened at to see if the manager would remove the hold... which I did... paid $3 to bring the account to zero, and opened a new account.

When applying for a credit card with them the two denials were either previous negative account with us or too many inquiries.  In May they sent me a pre-approval letter, I laughed and figured what's one more HP when you've already got 18 in the last six months... to my surprise, the approved the account instantly with a $500 limit and a letter stating that my account limit will increase with responsible use.

@Horseshoezi did read ur post BoA vs TD 😀 it was interesting. I am glad you managed your way out from BoA. I am not sure at this point if I am ready to proceed with my application due to lack of information, I may hold off for now and garden for a while. Till then I still have a lot of spending to reach my subs for my new cards.

Thanks for the heads up, and I an happy that you're in again. A long memory is bad. That is one main reason I want to push my luck and see, but only time will tell.

Thanks everyone.
