Its a good thing inquiries dont hurt after some time....

Never in my life (or 6months here at myfico lol) have I read of someone having their transunion pulled for an offical amex, let alone a denial.

These are the latest AMEX INQ that I got:

SPG   8/ 12/ 2015 EX

EDP 10/   3/ 2015 EX

PRG 10/ 28/ 2015 EX

It is possible they changed to using TU, if so it would be a quite recent shift, and I'd expect a few more reports by now.

Um we all know this isn't the case, especially since they provide Exp Fico for free each month.  Few rare ocassions of them pulling TU or all three or just TU on vary rare ocassions.

Dustin,

NRB's explanation is on track.

A HP denial basically means, you passed internal scoring, you passed the last SP on file so they proceed to HP you as if you are getting approved. Finally that refreshed report is ran back through their algorithm as a sanity check, then something there (score, inquiries, utilization, new accounts, etc) can flag you for denial. More than "some" frontline CSRs are not aware of this, however Amex does have a dedicated lending department (accessible over phone) that may or may not acknowledge this strategy depending on who you talk to.

Sorry to hear about your denial, but don't worry in a lot of cases HPs are worthless.
