NFCU CLI?

Re: NFCU CLI?

I appreciate all the feedback and support; my 3rd statement cut sometime last week and today is day 90.

As much as I would like to wait, tomorrow is the absolute last day I can take advantage of a sale price that is pretty substantial. I have put down a cash deposit that I forfeit unless I p/u tomorrow. I CAN spread the purchase across a few smaller CL's if needed, but rather put on this one.

So it seems like YMMV, but your eligible at day 90 + 3 statements cut? - If i'm declined for too early it's probably a HP but maybe not? Is that all correct?

My profile has improved by about 30-40 points since card opening, I have 2 substantial CLI's on sync cards, and opened an Amex card - however I don't expect the AMEX to report until well after the July AR.

Hoping to have a jumping for joy post in the approvals section shortly....Smiley Happy

Not to sound like a lecture but, I wouldn't of put a cash deposit I'd lose down on hopes of a CLI from a credit card company.

With that out of the way, if you are early, it will be a straight denial and no hard pull from what I have seen from others who pull the trigger too early. As far as your credit score raising 30-40 points, the current AR they have on file is from the end of April I believe as it was reported as being seen around the April 30th I believe if memory serves me correctly(which isn't likely lol). What this means is you may get a denial based on old info or it may kick it to review to a LO which means a brand new HP on your credit. As always with NFCU though, you should expect a HP with anything you request as they are HP happy!

It is suggested to always wait for a fresh AR for the system to have for an instant approval with a SP. I suppose if you don't mind the HP, as long as you are past your 90 days, go for it. Just know, it is suggested to wait as it could be lucrative doing so. Higher credit limit increase, no HP etc etc.

Good luck with whatever you choose to do! Let us know the outcome!

Re: NFCU CLI?

Yes they have changed up their AR schedule sing the last one was done in March 30th i thought, so it would be a pretty old AR , I would wait for a fresh one for best chance

Re: NFCU CLI?

No lecture, I appreciate your guys opinions and feedback - without your support and knowledge there is no way I would be here today, I'm sure that rings true for many new members. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

To clarify I dont "need" the CLI to avoid losing my deposit. I can pay it in cash, or pay it amongst 2 or 3 other CC's. I want to use this card for the purchase, but if I don't get CLI it's not the end of the world - i'll still make my purchase and avoid losing the deposit, just not in the "manner" I intended to.

UPDATE: I applied and was given 24 hr message, I ended up chatting with a rep tonight who said it was denied and expect a letter 7-10 days. She also says she did not see where a HP was done, nor have I had any alerts. Today was day 90, so it seems I may of been declined for being too early IE never sent to UW / no HP? March 15 confirmed start date.

In my mind, I sit tight and wait until the next AR is done and then request again. Even if I did get a HP today, and end up getting another after AR not the end of the world..I have 11-13 depending on report and over 7 fall off the next month and a half.

With that being said, from a data point perspective what's the general consensus on in theory trying tomorrowat day 91? This would confirm the 90 day vs 91 day (if not already!) and the I'm confident if an HP was done today, I would see it by tomorrow and could better determine denial reason. Recon? Again, I'm pretty dead set on waiting until the next AR and already see where I should have KEPT following the great advice I always recieve here - but what's the data say on "what if..."

Sorry for the novel...

Re: NFCU CLI?

Ohsnaps, March 15 was the 74th day of the year.  All you had to do to determine the 91st day was to add 91 to the 74 which will be June 14th.  Try that strategy the next time you are looking for a specific day number.

Re: NFCU CLI?

Sounds like you hit the luv button a day too soon. Tomorrow is the big day. I suppose you could try again tomorrow. Not sure. Perhaps someone more versed in NFCU can answer that better!

Re: NFCU CLI?

Thanks, I was unsure if it was 90 days or 91 and had asked a couple of times - thought it was worth giving it a try.

Re: NFCU CLI?

I believe you have to wait at least 1 month or it may be 6 months to apply after a declination.  Someone more knowledgeable please advise.

Re: NFCU CLI?

I believe I read previously that applies to all declines outside of "too early"; and if I recall it is 6mo. The theory is as it was too early, no review was done, no pull, no send to UW etc almost as if it didin't happen.

I sure hope that wasn't during a dream or something stupid lol..If I really screwed myself out of a cli after AR (hp or not) I will be furious at myself lol...I will be responding to ALL cli posts w/ a big PSA about it..half kidding...

Re: NFCU CLI?

Hmmm... I would wait until the upcoming AR to try again. What if you tried tomorrow & it declines you again plus the high possibility of a HP. Are you wanting to make the purchase on the Navy card to avoid spreading the purchase amt between 2-3 cards? If that's the case, you can always do a balance transfer to the Nfcu card no xfer fees. Not everyone is lucky enough to get a cli on day 91. I couldn't get an increase on my first card until 6mos in whereas few others had to wait an entire year for their first increase.

But if you're willing to take the chance then GL! 😁
