I decided to try and apply for a NFCU care since I have heard such good things about them. My TU score is 622 which isn't great so I decided to try for the Go Rewards Mastercard since they seem to be easier. I accidently applied for the Visa and was turned down. I wrote a letter to recon when I noticed that I had applied for the wrong card. My question is should I call and apply for another kind? I'd like to do it without another hard inquiry. I searched the forum but didn't find anything like this.
I have no bankrupcies, current on all bills, and have some collection baddies.
Thank you
You don't mention the timeline -- assuming recent I'd first call and ask them to use the existing HP.

With NFCU, it's likely they will not reuse the HP for the previously applied product.
When did you originally apply? Did you already receive the letter with the denial reasons? When was your request for reconsideration submitted?
You need to clear all the collections 1st before anything else , that should bring your scores up to the 700 level ...

I applied on last Sunday, sent a recon email Monday. Today I got the denial letter with reason. Too many inq, utilization too high, and collections. I’ll call and see if they can use the recent pull. I’ve had too many because when I asked for CLI four of my account did a hard pull. I’ll let you know the results.
Just a note that with NFCU the underwriting is the same on all their cards; you can even freely PC between any of the MasterCard/Visa products with no problem at all. For a time some thought that the underwriting for their Amex might be more strict, but now it seems to be similar (if not the same) as well.
The only NFCU card that is notably different is the Flagship Visa - it has a $5k minimum credit line. If there's a concern that someone might not be eligible for $5k it is usually suggested for them to apply for one of the other Visa products then PC to the Flagship if that's what they actually want (assuming a $5k or higher approval on the card they apply for, of course).

First thing first.. As a DP for Navy, they are very much about your DTI and Income. Scores don't really seem to bother them much as i was lower than you are but got a 1k approval with a 550, but a DTI of 12%. My cards and new card SL's have grown alot in the last year and a half. I would check on the above before you go after another card, and just expect the HP again.
As for the HP, they are HP happy and VERY rarely will ever use the same pull. 99.9% of the time they will pull you again. With Navy, you just have to expect the HP and be happy and lucky it was a SP. On the flip side of that, HP with Navy is actually worth it.
As for Score, Navy uses TU Fico9 for new card apps. you mentioned you have negs, (not always needed) but are they paid? If not, work on that and your F9 score will go up fast. It might take a bit of work and time, but Navy will make it worth it.
Can't wait to hear of your Navy successes. ![]()

I've never had any luck with that, but if you have i'd love to hear about it. Navy is very HP happy for everything but worth it

With Navy clearing up collections isnt necessarily true. We see people with sub 600 get approved and people in low 600s get big limits . It's just a ymmv thing with Navy.
it seems to be more of a DTI/Income or just long history IME ![]()
