NFCU Pre-Qualify: HOW GOOD ARE WE TALKING ??

So I have technically been a member with NFCU for 10 years but let my accounts go dormant (moved to a local CU) for about 8 of them lol til last spring. I reactivated, added $8k in balances to Flagship Checking, and savings. Credit was crap at that time so took out a $5k secured CashRewards to build history and have a higher limti card on my credit reports. PIF monthly, at $0 now and about $10k in deposits. Every month until 10/1 I was only being pre-qual for the CashRewards SECURED which I already have until 10/1 -- suddenly pre-qual for ALL cards ! But, I have read mixed reviews on the accuracy ?

Last time I applied was over a month ago my internal score was 228 and I was denied due to "

Too many inquiries, balances with NFCU (way lower then), and secured loans lacking (BS as I have 2 auto loans current)" ... Since then TU removed about 6 recent inquiries as some were fraud, I increased my balances substantially and use my Flagship debit card daily. FICO9 is now 778 w/ zero baddies and 1% util.

Should I take the leap or keep waiting? Is NFCU New account sensitive or no b/c I will have 1-2 new accounts report soon as well w/ high limits $10k plus. I want to maximize my chances here but was also wondering if I should go for a large personal loan w. them fiest to build more history even and I understand for PL they only use FICO9 not internal score like they do for CC's.

ANY INPUT as always is greatly appreicated my friends !!! THANK YOU !

Great recovery over the years.

Which card are you eyeing @Joeysalaaa?

Re: NFCU Pre-Qualify: HOW GOOD ARE WE TALKING ??

Thank you kindly !!

I am leaning towards the Platinum due to the great rate, and I already have Cash Secured and another Rewards card. I am just terrified of another hard inquiry and denial, as I have heard mixed reviews in their pre-qual tool !! BUT, I do find it promising that until a few days ago ti only showed pre-qual for the SECURED Cash now it shows pre-qual for all cards. What was your results each time you pre-qualed? I don't knowwwww!!! LOL

NFCU prequalify is not very reliable. Don't rely on it. I burned them for $40k and it shows me prequalified for all their cards.

If you burn them you will never get back in with them unless paid back in full that amount of money.  Hopefully you didn't waste the hard pull on that Smiley Happy

The prequal isn't accurate. If your secured card hasn't graduated yet, I don't think your odds of being approved are very good.

Not always entirely true.

I still have my secured cashRewards (previously nRewards) that's running on 5 years now and my other two cards (Flagship Visa & MR AmEx) are at a collective ~10k CL's each.

But as for the topic at hand - their prequalification is a joke. It'll either approve you for everything or just the secured card. I have the three card cap and it still approves me for everything.

You're better off calling them and asking if you have any offers or pre qualifications for new cards on your account. I have always found this more accurate than their fake pre qualifcation tool online. I consider it to be on par with BOA's. BOA is always soliciting me with offers that just go in the trash.

Re: NFCU Pre-Qualify: HOW GOOD ARE WE TALKING ??

@titancylinder Thanks. That advice, "You're better off calling them and asking if you have any offers or pre qualifications for new cards on your account," was very helpful. I've been looking to either product change or app for the Flagship. But, have been hesitant. They just gave me an $8k instant approval CLI on my platinum card back in April, so I've been waiting to app. And, of course, I prequalify for everything via the prequalify site.

But,  I talked to them today and they told me there are no prequalifications on my account right now for Flagship. So, I will keep waiting...

Thanks again.

Keep in mind just because they don't have a pre qualified offer doesn't mean there isn't a chance you would be approved. If you're willing to waste the HP, you could try and if denied recon via secure message.

If the card you have is 1 year or older they would likely approve the product change. Just stinks that you would give up your one time bonus.

Either way is the way Smiley Happy
