Browse credit cards from a variety of issuers to see if there's a better card for you.
One thing that may help you is to keep in mind that you want to be a bit cautious if you are using any of the "methods" floating around. Keep in mind credit unions can and do revoke memberships if they decide you got in through a non- "supported" method. Not trying to scare anyone, but it's something to keep in mind. I am not officially eligible for NFCU so I stay away from it.
Now, OP, not sure if you are "officially" eligible or not, but just pointing it out.
These seemingly great bandwagons often end in problems for many people, so tread lightly.
Sorry OP.. How does one join NFCU if u have no one as a member and not in arm forces or anything?? Can anyone guide me on how to join?

Not sure what you are saying here because if one was trying to get into a FCU like NFCU etc by a non accepted means I believe their app would be denied prior to their getting any products. When I applied for NFCU and Pen Fed I did so thru non traditional methods but made sure that these were acceptable by the CU. It really is ok to think outside the box. I think u r being too cautious here, but to each their own.

You'll want to read this thread very carefully, and follow the instructions exactly:

Here's an older locked thread that might provide more 'background' information if you're the curious type:

People have absolutely had memberships taken away after the fact of approval. CUs tend to scrutinize things more.
I just don't want to see a bunch of people getting into problems like with the Duck, BBVA, etc.
I don't quite understand your comparison. Navy League San Diego eligibility for NFCU has been part of their charter since 2010. Just because it was just discovered on Myfico doesn't make it less valid. They may one day decide to close it due to the sheer volume of new members via Navy League. But those that have already joined won't get kicked out lol.
ETA: Explanation of Navy League SD eligibility for NFCU
Thank you for using Navy Federal's eMessaging Service, Mr. [my last name]. In 2010, USA Federal Credit Union was merged with Navy Federal at the request of the National Credit Union Administration. As part of the due diligence with the merger, Navy Federal was asked to continue to accept USA Federal Credit Union's Charter, which includes the Navy League of United States San Diego Council. Since you are a part of the Navy League of San Diego, you are eligible for membership with us

+1
Honestly, at first I was really, really quite about this whole topic, since I'm also well-aware of the stories of NFCU's humorless security department... I subscribed to the first thread to see how things would turn out before even making a post since I was so unsure of it myself.
Now that I completely understand how it works and I've seen not just a person here and there but several folks join using this method, I would even be comfortable using it myself if I weren't already a member... and I'm definitely one of the more risk-adverse people around here.
I'll add that of the folks who have joined through the Navy League, a few of those folks are some of the most well-established/respected members on here, and have never led me astray before, or anybody else (as far as I know). As much as you can ever "know" somebody on here I feel like I know some of those folks, and they are giving it the thumb-up (and providing feedback along the way).
I wasn't around for the 'critter cards', and I'm well aware of the BBVA Compass "unable to verify" shenanigans, but this is really altogether different. I do appreciate healthy skepticism, though... it's good for us to constantly be checking over each other to make sure nothing is missed (yet another reason I really like this place!) ![]()

Thanks DaisyFly. I also ask for a 500 loc and was approved. Better than nothing I guess
Congratulations. That's my theory. As overdraft protection for my checking account, it will be more than sufficient, and people here say it will grow.
