NFCU

I've been with Navy over 3 years. I have a go rewards card with 3K limit that I've had the entire time. The 1st year I paid in full every month. The last two years, it's been maxed out and occasionally slightly over due to interest charges. My Discover it card was maxed for two years as well, 2700 CL and it's paid off as well, both have a zero balance with a BOA card(1K CL) at 7% utilization. I want to request a CLI since my scores have jumped drastically since the zero balance has now reported to bureaus however the EQ9 score in the navy app won't update again until July 5th so I'm think maybe just apply for a new card? Thoughts?

Re: NFCU

No experience with navy, but If you expect a big fico jump, I think I'd wait for them to update. Especially for a new card app.

Re: NFCU

I would second the other reply and wait until your reports update if I were you before applying.

You're right that the CLI's would use the soft pull. And the new card application would use a hard pull, thus getting your updated scores.  But it is better to avoid getting a new account, if you can wait. The inquiry, reset of age of youngest account, and lowering of average age of accounts are all avoided by going for a CLI instead.
