Hi all!
New here, but have been following threads for awhile.
I am currently rebuilding my credit since 2016.
I was approved in 2018 for a Nordstrom Store Card with a SL of $300. I've done everything from holding a balance and paying off in a few months, letting a statement close and paying off right away, etc. and still cannot get them to increase my CL. Would I have more luck talking to someone on the phone?
I was recently approved for a Target RedCard (also from TD) for a $300 SL.

Hi @Anonymous, welcome to the forums.
Can you tell us the reasons why any attempted CLIs have been declined? You mentioned you are still rebuilding, so can you also share other details about your profile? Things like your overall utilization, what other tradelines you have, any derogs, your FICO scores, your AAoA, etc.
Keep in mind that even though you may be attempting those methods to potentially increase the chances of a CLI, if the rest of your profile isn't optimal, then the CLI can be out of reach and talking to someone on the phone will yield the same results.
Also, the Target RedCard is managed independently so there's no correlation that would drive the decision on one vs. the other.
Welcome DPosey17,
I wish had had some awe inspiring message that I could deliver that would give you a ray of hope... but I don't. Filed BK7 in 8/14, DC 12/14.
I have the Nordstrom Visa with a CL @ $1500. Open the card in 2017 or 2018. Like you, I have done almost everything to this card. PIF, carry balances ranging from 10% up to 50%... and used it a my primary for 3 months.... and yield no results.
My target card on the on hand... I opened that early 2015... right out of BK7. TD seems to love $300 because that's what I got... it was not until 2017 did TD Bank bump my to $700. A few months later, bumped to $2000 with a MasterCard upgrade. To date. My Target MC is sitting at $9k use it every few months to keep active...
scores across the main 3 is low 700's...
Utilization is 4%
but back to Nordstrom... I got nothing. Maybe I will call tomorrow and inquire a CLI for a SP. If I get a bump, I will report! Lol but don't count on any good news.
Good luck!
The only thing I can add is Yes, if you call....you can get offered/request to process a CLI via SP on your Nordstrom Card. I am not sure how much integration TD Bank does/sees as they manage both your Target and Nordstrom Account and if that will be a mitigating factor for you
Good luck!
I've got nothing, but have say I was really impressed when I read you've "done everything including holding a Séance"... Then I re-read and realized you wrote "balance" not "Séance".
I'm having the same problem. I got my Nordstrom store card with a 2k line about 12 months ago. I've tried to get a CLI 3 times by phone with a rep and they won't budge.
I also have the Target store card, had it for 18 months with a SL of $300 and absolutely no increases since then.
I pay off the bills to zero every month or if I carry a balance, it's under 20%. Never late, never ever ever.
My starting Fico's when I began to clean house were all under 550. Now I'm over 700 but they won't budge. I think they're both issued by TD Ameritrade and TD ain't showing me no love. The only holdback I can think of for me is too many inquiries and relatively new history. But I would appreciate any advice I can use.
I would turn away from the store cards. You really won't get anywhere with them. And you can't use them anywhere else but that store with zero rewards to show and high Intrests rates and low limits. Why don't you apply for a Discover card? That is your best choice In my opinion. If you have been rebuilding for the past 5 years, you should be ready for the bigger boys. Discover is pretty good with thin files.
I'm not actively seeking new store cards but the Nordstrom card has been good to me with rewards. The Target gives me a small discount. I don't care for APR's on these because I always pay in full every month, I would just like to see a higher limit on them.

@GrandBay 😂🤣😂 One should count his blessing! Happy to report, after three or four years, TD finally decided to throw me a bone! I went from $1500 to $2000! 😆. In these odd times, that's a "dub" or "W"!
